It was in a different thread in the general forum.

Lots of controversy over there just because it was said that some fighters may have pound-for-pound faster hand speed than Roy.

Edit: You beat me again!

Then I would suggest that perhaps you lack imagination.

Louis could potentialy beat anybody who had bones for him to break with the right strategy. A puncher like that can basicaly beat anybody.

I agree! I think Tyson could win if he takes out Joe in the first couple of rounds... If Tyson is unable to do so, Joe will give him a reason to sing above his usual tenor voice in round 6. Tyson at falsetto - hmm... wouldn't even take a low blow from Joe either

Joe Louis had mediocre defense? This is some of the biggest nonsense i have ever heard.

Louis had extremely fast hands. He was a shuffler in terms of his movements and was not quick on his feet. His hands were another story. See how many punches he landed on Max Baer in a very short period of time. Tha fight is one of countless examples of Louis' incredible handspeed and precision power punching.

I'm baffled by all the suggestions that Louis was slow.

His combinations look awfully quick, crisp and accurate on film. I've always considered him to have excellent handspeed (if not the best ever in the division) although he does appear to be slow moving around the ring, but in many cases this has much to do with his gameplan, i.e., cutting off his opponents space

Archie Moore was another one who looked a little sluggish moving around the ring but let his hands go very quickly.

I tentatively pick Tyson, but of course nobody can rule out Joe Louis against anybody.
Yes, Louis got knocked down, wobbled and stunned but he always got up. Louis was like a tiger when cornered or hurt, and that's something that could conceivably work to his advantage.
If Tyson found he could not intimidate or bully Louis (and I can't imagine him doing that) then he's going to have to dig deeper than usual to win, and to be honest folks, when Tyson dug deep he oftentimes came up short.

Let's not forget that Louis had formidable firepower of his own, and while I don't think he had quite the power of Tyson, it's close enough that if Louis hit Tyson with some stinging shots, Tyson could fold.

Mike took single shots fantastically well, but Louis punched in bunches and if one of those meaty combo's caught Tyson rushing in...well, anything can happen.
People make a big deal of Louis' lack of mobility, but I don't think it's a negative factor at all - quite the contrary.
Tyson preyed on guys with lateral movement; he loved chasing someone down because he found it easier to find his range.
If you deny Tyson punching room, he's a lot less effective and Louis was a beast on the inside.

I can see Tyson rushing in with a hook or right hand, Louis standing his ground, and the punch sailing harmlessly behind Louis' neck or head. Then once inside, Tyson would wait for the ref to break them but all the while Louis is using Tyson's head for fungo practice with those short, chopping hooks and uppecuts.

By no means a certain bet that Tyson wins this one. In fact, I think I've convinced myself he'd lose.

Louis TKO9, after weathering an initial early barrage.

In my prediction, the determining factors here are, more than anything, defense and physical build. Louis will have MAJOR problems getting through Tyson's defence (just about everyone did), and even though he eventually will he will be taking tenfold the punishment in return. Even if we don't consider the fact that Tyson is arguably the greater puncher with both hands, the gross disparity between Tyson's defence and Louis' means that this will get ugly...fast.

Tyson's short, stocky build works in his favor in this fight. He gives up about an inch or two in height, but he has close to twenty pounds on his opponent..and Louis isn't the guy to muscle him around ala Holyfield, either. He'd be the come-forward bulldog in this matchup, and we know that Louis didn't especially like those types.

The last factor is chin. Tyson's is pretty much proven iron...Louis' not so. At the very best we can assert that Louis' chin is Tyson's equal... (although it almost certainly isn't), but even in that case he's at a huge disadvantage in handspeed, footspeed, and DEFENCE.
I agree. Tyson would KO Louis, IMO.
