![]() BTW I purposely disregarded psychological effects of screaming like a phaggot before lifting to deliver a smart response for a smart question before anyone comments. Last edited by Smudger; 09-20-2012 at 06:04 PM. Reason: none |

If you were a serious lifter you wouldn't be saying this nonsense. Cns stimulation is the most important thing when you're pushing something to the max. Fair point about grunting if they're doing 10 reps of a bodybuilding exercise like a shoulder press or bicep curl but if something requires everything then you need to hype yourself up. Do you have an issue with Olympic weightlifters hyping themselves up as well? Or is it the fact that somebody who is weaker than you is putting a lot of effort into something you can do easily? You take a nap then go and lift 1000 pounds, see how you go.

Some of you guys clearly underestimate psychology when it comes to lifting weights.
1. Shouting is aggressive and causes a hormonal response within the body. These guys shout and act aggressively before a big lift for this hormonal response. It's not a huge difference, but every little counts when you're lifting heavy shit attempting a new PR. 2. I've never seen a guy casually chatting to his friends, lie down and within 2 seconds just blast out a new bench PR. To lift a ****ing heavy weight you have to psych yourself up for it. Different people have different ways of doing this. one guy may shout, one guy may get his friend to slap him on the back, everybody is different. 3. Somebody mentioned habit earlier. Every athlete that lifts weights at a high level will develop a habit before they do a lift. Walk left to right 3 times each way, jump on the spot, get a slap on the back from a friend, whatever. It may look weird to some but without going through this ritual they've ingrained during their lifting career they'll most likely fail the lift. 4. Attention, as in having people watch you, is a huge game changer. Go check how many athletes set a new PR at the Olympics. When it comes to a venue with thousands or millions watching you I can guarantee that's the point when the PR's will happen. |

Shut the **** up. You only say this cause you're just some casual lifter lifting casual weights. If you were to become serious about putting up more weight, you'd understand how people feel before a big lift and how they feel a need to psyche themselves up.

For the record I was trolling, that said I lift a lot heavier than all the screamers in my last gym so weight isn't the reason for it at all. |

Just to add. Try doing some serious squatting without being mentally prepared, that shit is terrifying. I'm talking about ass-to-grass squats with 3 times bodyweight on your back, not slight knee bend then back up (the standard gym rat squat). Mess that up and your lifting days are over.
Being mentally ready is undeniably important and anybody that doesn't believe that has never put 100% into something. I even scream on the bosu ball |

Yea that was painful to watch. He is a tall guy with long legs,so deadlift and squats are little bit complicated cause of his knees benfing over the tip of his toes.
But he should really get a good S&C coach cause this was terrible. |

Even when i was healthy when i went over it didnt feel right. And i had very good technique of lifting of around 160 kg when doing parallels. Thrutfully it is said that you load up the lower back even more which is not ideal as the training effect you would like to have is adaptation to your muscles in the legs and hips when you knees go over the toes. [ame]*******************.youtube.com/watch?v=dbxxs1PErLQ[/ame] You can find ****ing studies about everything today, good or bad it doesnt matter. |
