Default What do you do when someone turns their back in sparring?

Do you hit them to the head, body, push them, spin them even more, back off, or does it depend on who they are (newbie, bigger guy, smaller guy, experieced, etc)?

Had this happen a few times, looking for a certain answer.

In sparring back off, at the end of the day you're still gym mates

In sparring u simply wait.

Its pretty hard for some people to train themself not to turn away from attacks (Me included)

Back off, go easy on him and he will eventually train his brain to face the adversity head on.

Its a very natural thing to turn away

What sort of a question is this? Hit him in the back of his head. Nah seriously you're a wanker, it's sparring so back off tough guy.

maybe hit them softly to tell them the consequences of turning their backs in a sparring/fight... If not they'll do it forever. And of course, dont hit him hard and comment on his bad habit after the sparring session

Guys, it WAS a newbie, he said it was his first couple days BUT-- he was bigger/taller (170+ to me being 148 lbs) and was going TOO ****ING HARD.

He was spazing out from the get-go when I specifically told him to stay calm and go relaxed.

This is also Muay Thai, so luckily, I backed him off with push kicks and could kick the legs.

I think when he turned around, he essentially ran past me and was so off balance he turned his back. I hit him to the body once and backed to the center.

I understand, i'm even smaller 140 lbs, so most of my sparring partners are larger than me. Almost every time, I go easy on newbies, just throw jabs, paw at the guy and work my defense. Back off when he's overwhelmed. But some of them start out nervous and throwing bombs from the get go. Eventually your instinct comes out and you begin to actually defend yourself and wham, they eat a hard left hook.
Plus, it's a different story if you were an amazingly talented boxer with years of experience. But me personally, an average-skilled boxer....(and usually smaller) - it takes a little effort not to eat hard shots.
I guess all you can do is try your best not to go too hard and keep reminding yourself that they are new. But sometimes, stuff just happens.
It's not entirely bad, most times they turn away cuz they're gassed. This teaches them not to get too aggressive too early. So they learn from it. I learned exactly the same way.
So that's my advice, just try your best. Keep your ego in check.

Now, on the other hand, when some clown starts to get ****y and they clearly don't have the skills to back it up - them I am all too happy to give them a nice dose of reality.

Give 'em one straight to the ****ing kidneys!

Seriously though, back off. Its not a fight and its for learning experience. Hitting them in the kidneys will only make you look like a douche.
