He should go after the Commonwealth belt to get his confidence back up then put him in with Gethin who won a IBF international belt at the weekend and go from there. I wouldnt be surprised though if he went up to light-welterweight.

He should get in the mix with Crolla, Matthews, Gethin, Murray, even Rees (might be too much though IMO)
Any thoughts of 'World class' opposition or getting to 'the top' should be left alone forever now. |

As most others including he himself have said, he just needs to get active. 5 fights a year should be the aim.
There are plenty decent domestic opponents and with a following like he has the British title can be a very good earner/ |

It's probably the main thing to be honest. You watch, give it a couple of months and instead of talking about his next opponent he'll be admitting he went on a massive bender after the Burns loss, spending £100,000 on booze and fruit machines, and whatever.
It's not like he's just a kid who's making mistakes, he's a bit too far into his career to change in my opinion. |

He's a good boxer, but suffered from a stop-start career. I think he's better suited to SFW.
The Burns loss is by no means career ending, but as far as elite/world level, he looks a couple of levels short. |

You know what, a couple of years ago people would have argued he was far more talented than Ricky Burns, but he stepped off the gas whereas Ricky dedicated himself to improvement. This should be a warning for those boxers whose feet are not firmly planted on the ground.

And forget about needing 'good' keep busy fights, it doesnt matter if its journeymen, as long as he gets ring time. Look at Burns, when he knew he was getting a world title shot he fought Al hemidi anyway as a warm up, & got some rounds under his belt to keep him fresh, and the rest as they say? Is history. Dont matter who you fight while you are waiting on a biggie, as long as your in that ring keeping well oiled, thats what I preach. |
