Some people standards are rather pathetic.

Good one!

I don't know what Cleverly is being compared to Ward here, he's three years younger than Ward. When Ward was Cleverly's age, he was pre-super 6 and only had one semi-decent win on his record. Their resume's were comparable at that stage. However, Ward is clearly the more talented fighter, so I would be highly surprised if Cleverly developed as much as Ward did since late-2009.

lets be fair, wbo title is worth something now, its seen as the smallest of the 'major' titles today (whereas in Calzaghes time is was the equivalent of the unwanted WBU/IBUM title).

So Nath is not really following Joe C (defending unknown title for 9 years), he is defending a title that has some legitamacy despite him not winning it outright. If he was following Joe C then he would be defending the WBU/IBO/whateverinventednoprestige title, but hes not.

Cleverly has plenty of time to step his game up. As of now, I won't bash him. He ain't really done much yet. He looks like a decent fighter, just not a special fighter. We'll see what happens when/if he takes a really tough fight.

At least Calzaghe fought some credible opponents.
And didn't Cleverly win a bs decision ?

The other big difference is that when he does have to face a decent mandatory, he'll probably lose. He's struggled against some pretty mediocre competition. Too bad his next mandatory is Robin (nee Haxhi) Krasniqi, who's pretty awful himself.

its true, clevelry has plenty of time to step up.

Remember out of the first seven defences of Joe Calzaghe, six were utter bums -- thats almost 90% shit defences in that first run. The statistics dont lie. ****ing abysmal.
Lets be honest, Cleverly can easily surpass that in his next 4 or 5 fights. Any middling champion can do that! but whether he ends up raising his game to a Kessler 20 fights down the road is a mystery still.
