A little something for the Ben Edwards fans.
This was the 2010 K1 tournament in Canberra. Which Ben won in world record time. 3 opponents in a total of only 3 minutes and 28 seconds >>> [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ohRyvIpaeqw[/ame] |

Yeah he beat the record from Jerome Le Banner with that time. Ben has pretty good boxing skills, his hands are very fast and has 2 handed KO power. With these features he can upset a lot of fighters. He looked in good physical shape back in 2010 btw.

Ben's ability to knock opponents cold extends to the boxing ring. His record reads 3 wins (all by KO) and a draw from 4 bouts. The draw was in a fight for the Australian heavyweight title, which I think he has the ammunition to win if he decides to return to the ring. |

![]() Nice vid. Awesome staredown for the final, he alpha'ed the fuck out of the other guy. Are the matchups for the next round confirmed? Does Cro Cop have any realistic chance to make it to the semis? And how good a victory was his last win? I know nothing about his opponent, but the guy had a good undefeated record at least. Obviously that can be deceptive, but was the guy legit? It's pretty much taken for granted that Cro Cop is completely and utterly shot. If he can still hold his own in a serious kickboxing tournament, what does that tell us about how much physicality he still has left? Anything? ![]()

Blake was undefeated, but his fight with Cro Cop was only his second time fighting outside of Oklahoma, and his two most notable wins are over a very old Marvin Eastman, and a very old Dewey Cooper, neither of which were ever great kickboxers themselves. Plus, he fights in a very point based karate style, very rarely sitting on any of his strikes. Cro Cop didn't really have to fear the knockout, and won purely on being the aggressor.
No, it wasn't a particularly great win. It just showed that Blake isn't ready for the world scene, and that his style doesn't adapt very well to K1. |

![]() So Cro Cop got somewhat of a soft draw and is likely in trouble heading into the quarters? Good to hear that at least he was the aggressor though. Every fight of his in the UFC, he seemed to always be backing up. Hopefully for his sake he can pull one last good win out of the bag in this tournament. He has earned that, instead of leaving combat sports with an extended whimper instead of a bang. ![]()

Wiki seems to have changed the previous shortcut. The one below takes you to where the other one used to >>> [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] It has the quarter finals as follows >>> 1/ Ben Edwards (Aust) vs Jarrell Miller 2/ Zabit Samedov vs Hesdy Gerges 3/ Ismael Londt vs Makoto Uehara If Edwards is successful he meets the winner of Samedov vs Gerges. With the winner of that progressing to the final. (all according to Wiki of course) |

The next step in the K1 tournament isn't until December 26 >>>
K-1 Final 16 Results K-1 was in action this weekend with their most important show since the relaunch - the K-1 2012 Grand Prix Final 16. Winners of 8 Heavyweight fights now move on to the Grand Prix finals scheduled for December 26 in New York City (though there are some rumblings that the date will be pushed back to January to allow it to air on Spike). In the main event, Mirko Cro Cop defeated Randy Blake via decision to earn his spot. Cro Cop has looked pretty good since coming back to kickboxing this year, and, crazy but true, is one of the favorites to win this year's crown. The other big favorite is Hesdy Gerges, who defeated Sergei Lascenko. Zabit Samedov also should not be ruled out, as he is a crafty veteran who has looked good lately, including in this quick win over Xavier Vigney. I'll take Ismael Londt as my dark horse pick - he didn't look fantastic in his win over Singh Jaideep, but he's still a force. On the US side, only Jarrell Miller moved on to the finals - he'll be representing the country in New York. Overall, it wasn't the best show, as some of the Final 16 fights were a bit conservative (which often happens). But there was a lot of fun to be had, both on the undercard, and in fights like Raul Catinas vs. Ben Edwards. If you didn't know about the show, you're forgiven. K-1 did very little publicity, and Spike.com didn't even have stream info up for most of last week. Spike had the stream up for free yesterday, but now, it's gone. Why? Who knows. Watch Cro Cop's fight here, and, uh, good luck on the rest. |

He's too light too. Quite a difference with someone like Carter Williams. I think that if they want some US fighters in K-1, they should make their debut in Supercombat first and if they get some experience there and eventually get the big win, they should get their chance to move to K-1. Dropping them in K-1 right away doesn't seem to be a good idea as they are not good enough yet and that's not good for the spectators as well. Vigney got his reality check right away. |
