Default Bernard "The Executioner" Hopkins Appreciation Thread

Still feel like he isn't getting the love he deserves. Had a REAL hard time warming up to the old bastard in my younger boxing years but over time he's really turned me. A true ATG.

War B-Hops!

Pascal: "Dis is Boornard's defense."

Hopkins: "You went 12 rounds with a guy like that? You couldn't beat a guy doin' that?"

Not the hardest puncher, not the fastest, not the strongest, not the slickest, not the hardest chin. But he's probably 2nd best at all of these categories and that is certainly enough tools to stand up to any Middle in history. I take it back, he does have the hardest chin.
Hopkins blew past Monzons historic championship defense record and kept on going.

He has stood the test of time and won fights against favored opponents, that always leaves me with a good impression. Old man Hopkins went up in weight and faced two guys who were favored to use him as a stepping stone. The fights ended up being little more than sparring sessions for Bernard outpointing them both about every round. Yes, I am speaking of Antonio Tarver and kelly "going to be Hopkins first KO loss" Pavlik.

Amen, Joe. Even people were picking Wright to outjab and outwork Hopkins. Foreman put it best, that Hopkins is a terrier in fox clothing

I really enjoyed the Hopkins vs Pascal/Tarver/Pavliks stuff.

Bernard is my favorite current favorite active fighter. He's been surprising me with his performances past 40 for 7 years now.

He's the epitome of an example of how far a fighter can go with keeping true to basic fundamentals and keeping in shape year round. There were/are guys with more natural talent and athleticism (Roy Jones Jr), more star power (Oscar De La Hoya), and more raw power (Trinidad), but it's Hopkins, who stuck to the basics, that is still around and has a title fight at age 48 in less than a month.
