I agree with this...

Jones vs. Eubank was just never all that viable... Jones vs. Benn was though.. and it is a shame... I read an interesting article about this fight, and Don King wanting too much.. Total shame, I think Benn and Jones were both reluctant, but would have gone through with the right money...

Jones would have had a tough time with the best version of Eubank... Which i am sure he would have been had he knew he was fighting Roy Jones... Jones destroys the version Calzaghe fought..

atberry, I admire your liking for Eubank.. I am a huge Jones fan, but realize Eubank was unique and had great ability...

But I have read posts of you pretty much dismissing anything Roy has done...
I would take you more seriously, if you gave Roy more credit... He did beat 2 of the biggest names of his generation...

Eubank himself has talked about how great Roy was...

Its hard for me not to like Eubank when I watch his fights... Wish you could say the same about Roy.. he was fun to watch...

Jones was fun to watch with his speed, power and athletic reflexes. I liked his leaping left hook from the right lead stance - nobody detected it!

Would have been fun to see Eubank react to the leaping left.... Can you imagine the look on his face when Roy first threw it?? Eubank had some of my favorite facial expressions of any fighter.

Eubank's sneak right was the perfect shot to counter Jones's leap hook

Schommer would've outboxed the Toney who fought Jones, no question.

I'm a big eubank fan. He was a great fighter and gives anybody a hard fight. Met him in Brighton years back. Nice fella. Have to say though, Think rjj nicks it on points. I respect both men for the fighters they were, as I respect any man with the balls to step into the ring no matter what his level of ability

Schommer was a horrible, part time pro who was probably past his physical prime by the time he completed outboxed Eubank with only one week's training camp. There is absolutely no way that he would win more than 30% of rounds against any version of Toney, apart from maybe the one that fought Tiberi.

I will actually echo you on one point, as an amateur he did have the big wins you mention. Certainly against Virgil Hill, not sure about the other two. Whatever talent he had as an amateur, he couldn't parlay that into winning any major meets.

Schommer was nothing but a journeyman who probably worked as a taxi driver or something during the day. His only half decent win before he fought Eubank was over the once half decent title challenger Nicky Walker. Eubank completley embarrassed himself that night.

Schommer worked in a office job full time before Eubank contacted him. He had, had only had 2 fights in the previous 3 years. I would class Schommer as around club fighter level.

This post is worse that your Eubank-Watson I scorecard

That version of Toney does not lose to clubfighters, like Schommer, or limited fighters like Collins

ps: toney was not weight drained

Stockbroker, actually.

Schommer was a well-educated, broadly middle-class bloke whose yearly income from his day job far exceeded anything he earned in the ring.
