working through the bantamweight division at the moment.

any thoughts on the timeline so far?

Wilde is a very legit champion at bw and he held the lineal title there from what I can gather based on my research.

Ok I have this as a preliminary timeline.

Doing this division was pretty difficult because I've not followed it prior to montiel v hasagawa so I don't have mucyh foundation knowledge to go off.

It became quite difficult picking a premiere fighter around the time of canizales and austin. It has settled down somewhat recently because montiel v hasagawa was a clear choice for top fighter and nonito v montiel was a greatchoice again. It could have got messy had donaire not vacated just before the bw championship tournament concluded.

Any thoughts? Obvious ommissions or just shit choices anywehere?

There were times like the teens\early 20s, late 30s and mid-nineties to early 00's where Bantam was just a total cluster**** as far as predicting a premiere fighter goes, either for any length of time or because of fighters not fighting each other.

Tell me about it!

amazingly the 20's and 30's were known as the golden bantam era!

in the early 00's there were so many prominant belt holders crying out for a unification match. goddamn boxing politics!

Default Re: My timeline of the premiere bw in the world

Knowing what you're like I thought you would've had Macias replace Cohen (who refused to fight him)

I love Sonkitrat but he like Betulio Gonzalez twenty years later he was given title opportunities just because of his connections. Both Cohen and Raton won the 'vacant' title from him...it's a hard era to gauge but for me, Macias was clearly superior to Cohen.

What with everyone retiring young in that era Jofre picks up the belt anyway do it doesn't bother me. But Cohen was not a 'champion' IMO, harsh as that sounds.

yeah it's difficult for me to justify placing Raton above Cohen when both essentially got prestige against the same man, but Cohen did it first.

Then again, is beating that thai worthy of gaining prestige in the first place?

Plus Cohen only won via SD so I'm not sure how desrving that victory was.

It's something I'll ponder anyways, sheers mate
