Default Benitez vs McCallum At 154

The Betinez who beat Duran vs McCallum at his best weight 154.

Can El Radar box McCallum's ears off, similar to what Sumbu Kalambay done the first time?

He possibly could. The Benitez that beat Duran would be a handful for McCallum. McCallum was a GREAT fighter, but slick/speedy techncians were hell for him. Kalambay schooled him, Curry was schooling him til he got caught, and Herol Graham gave him a very tough fight. If all those guys could trouble Mike, Benitez at his best certainly would as well. Mike would have to start his body attack very early, cause if he tried to box w/El Radar from the outside... he'd be in for a long night.

Mike was overall the better fighter at 154, but the Benitez of the Duran fight might in fact pull the upset.

Benitez I actually think holds the edge here. Mike was excellent at mid and close range, but he was always hittable despite the fact that he had very good defensive schooling. I think this is a bout where Benitez's speed and reflexes would give him the advantage in a mid range bout with McCallum, while able to more than hold his own on the inside for spurts when needed.

I agree that while I don't rate Benitez above McCallum at 154, he does have the style to beat him head-to-head. Benitez might end up being too slippery, quick and skilled for McCallum over 15 rounds.

I do think that McCallum was a brilliant 15 round fighter, and with that many rounds to work with he could possibly score a stoppage win or take over the fight in the later rounds enough to win a close decision. But I'd favour the slick Benitez who didn't show any troubles going 15.

McCallum kicks his ass, whether its using his underrated jab and sneaky right on the outside, or working him over on the inside. McCallum finds a way to land and hurt whether to the body or head

What performances did he ever give that would suggest he does that to someone of Wilfred's level and style?.

I think it's a fight Mike can win, but it's highly unlikely to be easy.

That McCallum highlight you did was great by the way, A.Really well put together stuff. The guy could throw some awesome combinations.

Just looking at the Kalule fight sectrion and i was reminded to ask..you don't have a copy of Kalule's legendary 2 round KO of Ho Joo you could possibly put up when you have time?.

Wilfred sure didn't use his legs as often at the higher weights. W/o that mobility, I think the taller McCallum will land to the body. And especially when Benetiz retreats to the ropes. He isn't facing a head hunter type and McCallum will just pound away. It's not as if Wilfred can punch the guy off of him & that high workrate and accuracy of McCallum will score the points.

I think Benitez builds a good lead but around the late mid rounds Mccallum starts to wear him down to make it a close fight, but Benitez takes this 116-113.

great tactical fight between two all-time greats. I think that Benitez takes this one because while mccallum did everything well he was not really exceptional in any one category.

Benitez on the other hand was exceptional in 3 categories; defense. speed, and counterpunching. He was a defensive genious who would avoid punches at the last split second and counter with great effectiveness.

This would happen over and over again, leaving the "jamaican sensation" fustrated and falling behind on points. Realizing that he would need a ko to win he goes all out but come up with air. "el radar" wins a unanimous 15 round decision.
