Default check hook, check hook

Hello,

in this video below, right from the start, when Floyd is shadow-boxing, his coach is shouting: 'check hook, check hook, show how you check those punches"
Could anyone break down this for me?

Generally, I have noticed fighters practice hooks, uppercuts in a special way when shadow-boxing (examples are Broner, Jones, Ward), special because it looks somewhat different from when they are hitting mitts and such. Could anyone explain me that?

Thanks!

That guy yelling doesn't sound like Roger...probably just another member of his entourage.

A check hook is a long range lead hook you fire while retreating and it works a treat against aggressive advancing shorter pressure fighters like hatton,

I think people use the term "check hook" to describe different hooks.

I always thought the term "check hook" was used to describe a lead hook thrown whilst pivoting on the front foot i.e pivoting right to avoid the right hand whilst throwing the hook simultaneously.

However, I know others think of it as you have mentioned above.
