Dave Herman

Whats this guys discipline? As he seems to fancy himself as a striker. His technique though is just flat out horrible. From a boxing perspective he just does soo many things wrong. Watching him last night was like watching a fighter from the early 1900's who'd been trained from an 1800's boxing manual. The guy moves in straight lines like a robot. His chin is way up in the air and was being strafed repeatedly by telegraphed hooks from Nog. For a guy who seems to be a striker his striking is just sooo rudimentary. Great to see an aged vet like Nog get the sub but it still shows the huge gulf in 'class' between the old skool and new skool fighters.

It's actually embarrassing to think this bloke just co main evented for the worlds Premier mma company ...

His discipline is being a heavyweight. Division is so pissweak the most average guys seem to be able to make the big time.

Herman comes from a wrestling background, though I don't know how extensive. I've just heard it during the commentary of some of his fights.

This was the first fight I ever saw Herman in:

That was in 2008. He looks like the same fighter today. I've seen against other lower quality fighters, and he appears to have exceptional athleticism. I honestly don't know why he doesn't improve.

People are talking like Dave Herman was/is some sort of highly regarded future prospect !!!

Who's ever said that ??, he served a purpose, he was somebody stylistically and skill set wise that Nog could beat and look good doing so in front of the home crowd, incidentally he did look good, but thats largely because Herman is awful, just out of interest id like to know who fancied Herman ?? because i didn't, even against todays Nog

Nog is shot, he loses to the majority of todays top 10 IMO

Laughing at your entire post fail and lack of reading comprehension.
Both Nog and his brother boxed. His brother representing his country as an Amateur. Pretty clear who had the better boxing of the two. Pretty clear Hermans claims that BJJ was nonsense back fired spectacularly. When a guy like Big Nog who is so shot his spitting dust is still competitive with a young buck like Herman its abundantly clear the gulf in class is a big one.

I won't lie I had him winning this fight after seeing the atrocious shape Nog came in at.

If he can't beat a past prime fat out of shape nog who's older than him than as far as I am concerned he has no place in the UFC. This fight was his for the taking he needs to take a stroll down wash out lane.

i had the impression that herman was totally in awe of big nog, and was pleased just to be in the octagon with him.
i don't think he tried that hard to win either. well unless he always fights like that, i've not watched him before?

Another reading comprehension fail. Don't imply or infer what i did not write. What i wrote was VERY clear. I never once insinuated that Herman was a prospect. What i was attempting to demonstrate was his inept striking skills compared with Big Nogs but that clearly went right over your sloped dome again.

Herman did look like he was just happy to be there. Why the fuck was he standing completely straight up and down and flatfooted, right in front of Nog?

Still, nice win for Nog though. Good way for him to go out, a nice submission win in a (sub-par) co-main event in the major org, in front of a Brazilian crowd. Not that he will walk away though.

And scurla, the "new skool" heavyweights are the likes of JDS and Cain. Not fuckin' Dave Herman, who nobody on here has ever gotten even provisionally excited about.

I've seen him fight twice before and he looked better than that, but not by much.

I think he's the type of guy who is a tremendous athlete, and he knows it and has relied too heavily on it his whole life. He doesn't seem like a fighter to me - just a guy who can make a living at fighting easier than he can at other sports. Could well be completely wrong, but that's the impression I get.

Obviously he is very good at crushing cans (again, natural athleticism will allow you to do that) but as soon as he steps up against guys who both are tough AND actually know how to fight, he comes unstuck.

Anyway, if he washes out I can't see too many fans being too gutted to see him go. Not like he appears on a track to the top levels, is it.
