Default Lennox Lewis vs. Tyson - 1990

Lets say a very green, very rough Lennox from 1990 replaces Buster Douglas in his fight against Tyson.

Can Lennox pull off the upset?

Most likely not. Tyson's training habits and work ethic were at an all-time low in 1990, but Lennox Lewis didn't have the style to pull a Buster Douglas on him. He was FAR too green in 1990 to have a reasonable chance at victory in this matchup.

Remember, this is the Lewis pre-Steward. Tyson "McCall"s him early.

Yeah, I can see Tyson landing a lot more of those shots like the ones he dropped Buster with.

Lennox was pretty damned crude early on.

That's what I'm thinking. What worked on Tyson in 1990 was Buster's effective clinching, which I'm thinking a green Lennox Lewis fresh from the amateurs would not be able to replicate, even if he somehow got the idea to try it.

Lewis might not know to protect his chin either, hence the "McCall" in my prediction.

Buster seemed fearless that night too, what with being driven by his mother dying and the divorce.

Helped putting together combinations, trading, blah blah.

It's not an upset. Lewis at this point in his career was not yet the careful chess player that he became under Manny Steward, he was a 2 fisted slugger who liked to punch down from max range. Tyson was finished. If you don't think that Lewis (Gold medal in the Olympics, 2x Olympian) on his worst day was better than Douglas on his best day, I don't know what to tell you.

Lewis was not completely mature yet and still too green to do well against a killer like Tyson in 1990. Tyson would have won even on the lackluster night against Douglass.

You think McCall and Rahman were better than Douglas was on the night he fought Tyson?

Lewis was 7-0 and had never even completed 5 rounds of competitive boxing. And he fought like a rookie too.
Tyson would have slaughtered him.

Tyson would crucify LL at this stage. Lennox didnt peak until Manny Steward got hold of him.

Tyson KO 2 1990 Lewis.

Prime Lennox beats any version of Mike Tyson though!

Too early. Tyson would win by KO.

Funny because 1990 is the year when Tyson was knocked out by Douglas. Lennox beats any version of Tyson but especially this particular one. Lennox takes the fight by late KO. I see him picking his spots from the outside, sticking his jab, landing his right hand, and stopping a beaten and discouraged Mike Tyson around the 10th.
