Default Gustavo Ballas 'The South American Sugarman'

Gustavo Ballas a.k.a. 'Mandrake the Magician'

The talented boxing machine from Argentina, who many likened to
The Sugarman 'Sugar' Ray Robinson.

The 23 1/2 year-old - had an incredible unbeaten streak at 54-0-1 (20 KO's),
and Gustavo was considered to be a next 'Superstar' for American Television.

After winning the WBA Super Flyweight Championship in September 1981,
he was being 'groomed' for a big Nationally Televised bout for early-1982.

When,,,,,,,in December 1981 in Panama City, Panama - Gustavo was to
make his 'first' Title Defense versus Rafael Pedroza, a fighter that he
had easily decisioned earlier in his career.
