he was definitley still in his prime when he fought pacquiao. he may have been a little battle tested, but was still in his prime no doubt. pacquiao was just a stylistic nightmare for barrera. his punch output was too high and there was nothing barrera could do to keep him off him.
agreed. i think thats the really defining thing about barrera. even after being defeated by junior jones, pacquiao, and morales (although that first fight could have gone either way). he still went on to reinvent himself ,improve his game, and perform well against top competition. he really rebounded from losses well and didn't seem to lose confidence afterwards. to me that's a true charateristic of an all time great. |

boxrec is bad if you don't look at the records in context to the time. At that time Tz didn't fight that much honestly. He was still in the tops, just that there was a long layoff from the time I think he fought Mitchell, which was around the end of 2004. After beating Judah Tz only fought like once per year. He was still P4P number 3, when he loss to Hatton he had immediately retired. In the 2005 rankings P4P you see Hatton is p4p number 4.

As Barrera's my alltime #2,it's tempting to make an argument for saying no,but the truth is,he basically admitted that Pacquaio was a stylistic nightmare for him,so the reality is,even though I could make a case for him being slightly past prime,he probably would've lost to Manny in 2001 or any other time you care to mention.
At least he's big enough to admit he just couldn't work him out. Many top guys will always have an excuse or reason for it going wrong. |

He wasn't past prime Somewhere in between, Barrera was 29 and a lot of boxers these days get cred for beating up 30 plus boxers. When Manny fought Morales.Em was in his late 20's and early 30's.This version of Morales is old as hell and SHOT as hell.Marquez was 31 at the time. But definitely Pacquiao fought these 3 amigos when they were more than capable of throwing it down and dishing it out.

What part of annual don't you understand? It was at the END of 2004, TZYU went into the fight as a top 3 p4p guy, and lost that status at the end of 2005 because he LOST to Hatton.
