Rocky has the better chin, has plenty enough brutal power to KO Earnie, is perhaps more skillful.
BUT Earnie is a bigger more modern fighter, hits like a freight train, has long reach, punishing body blows, and is quite skillful. Whats your prediction? Who wins and how? |

Rocky would destroy him just as quickly, if not quicker, than Quarry did. And no, Shavers wasn't more skilled than Marciano, nor is he significantly bigger. He's more modern? What does that even mean, when you can't get past 24-21 Bob Stallings?

Shavers could hit like hell...but so could Marciano...it took some fighters weeks to get over a beating from The Rock...Marciano was the best conditioned fighter of all time...Shavers had stamina issues...Shavers never had the talent of being able to land the big punch when he needed to...that's why he was never the champ...Rocky did...Marciano by KO...he hurts Shavers...the fights over...

My answer's probably quite predictable and consensual. Earnie would have a great shot at stopping Rocky in the first three rounds or so. However,if the fight goes on much longer than that,Marciano grinds Shavers down and halts him by the halfway mark. |

Also despite being having a frightening KO% if you delve deeper into Earnies list of victimes you won't come out impressed. Marciano was just leagues better quality, but of course Earnie could turn the trick but i wouldn't bet a penny on it happening. |

Rocky could take a big shot or three, and survive some scary moments. Earnie would have to pound him, or catch him consistently with multiple big right hands, to stop him.
The second Marciano had Earnie under fire, though, he'd just keep blasting away, and Earnie would fall down. That's what it is, honestly. The guy who can walk through a ton of adversity and is a relentless finisher is going to beat a guy who lacks that type of toughness and jaw, no matter the power difference, and Rocky wasn't a soft hitter. |

Most have already illuded to the Quarry fight, and while I don't know if that same result would have occurred had Shavers fought him multiple times, it does make it rather hard to give him a chance against Rocky Marciano. Quarry was a different fighter that evening. He abandoned his usual wait and counter style, to go in there and get right on top of Shavers. If Jerry could pull off an attack like that which is unnatural for him, then a man who's signature approach would have even less trouble.. Earnie's only shot is to land something huge and fast.. If he could get off a nicely placed overhand right like the one he dropped Holmes with, he might well get lucky. But the odds can't be stacked in his favor.. Not even by a long shot.
