I would have to go with the clever Ottke to find a way to outpoint Pavlik.Brains and resourcefulness over the guy with the power and all the physical advantages.

8-4 for Ottke. As with most fights Ottke would dominate the forst 7-8 rounds, securing his decision win and then get on his bike making it close than it actually was. As he once said, "he doesnīt wanna end up like Ali or others and doesnīt care if he pleases a crowds. Itīs about winning and making money."

Firstly Ottke is nowhere near as good as Hopkins or even Martinez. He has a tight high guard and worked well as a defensive spoiler, while not being that quick. Most of his best opponents pushed him all the way or beat him.
Who's the best and biggest jabber Ottke faced? Pavlik has what 5 inches in height and reach, for a high workrate quality jab that's quite a bit. Pavlik maybe the best offensive fighting Ottke would have fought too I see this as likely being pretty close, but I'd lean towards Pavlik I think depending on the judging criteria and how they value the weight behind punches |

Ottke faced a lot more "bigger and better jabbers" than Pavlik.
He fought and beat a fair few LHs despite his size inc Glen Johnson, Silvio Branco and at SM he beat Brewer twice despites Charles's whining. Ottke couldnt seemingly punch but had a way of making stronger bigger men cover up and be impotent when he made those charges of his. As for being a crowd pleaser, well the crowds in germany certainly loved him and the shows he would put on. It was a tradition in the twelth round of a Ottke fight for the crowd (most them replendescent in black evening dress) to stand and cheer and clap ottke home as he usually went on his bike in the last round. |

It's true, Ottke is no Hopkins, however Pavlik barely won a round that night and Ottke although a notorious ducker was an incredibly clever fighter and could spoil his way through the 12 rounds. Pavlik has good power, but I doubt he's got enough to stop Sven, however still enough to be watchful of it. Pavlik also seems to limit his great physical advantages by abandoning his jab at times and throwing single shots at a time, which gives me a slight insentive to take Ottke.
In Germany Ottke by a questionably competitive decision On neutral grounds Ottke by MD |
