Way too many to choose from. Where do you start?

There were better boxers than Roy Jones. He had an awesome combination of power, speed & athleticism but technically he was inferior to quite a few, why do you think he started losing so badly when his reflexes started to go, his basics weren`t strong enough to allow him to compete at a good level without his physical gifts.

Show me a guy without the ability to pull the trigger, and I'll show you a shot fighter. He was ad******g as he got older. A much more effective high guard, circling his way in to shoot his power punches, and much more defensively minded. He got KO'd by Tarver and was done. One shot ended his career as a world class fighter.

Exactly my point + even at his best there were better boxers, Ali, Pep, Whitaker, Leonard, Sanchez & Robinson for starters. Jones was one of the greats though, no doubt but not the best.

Would Pep and Whitaker be marked down due to a lack of innate power? Surely an inherent type of talent.

If they were bigger punchers they likely wouldn`t have been as good a `boxers` as they were, when you don`t have a big punch there is only one way to win & thats out-skill your opponent & you need to be good enough to do that just about every time out.

Yeah, but he's talking about raw talent. Clearly those guys must have been off the charts in terms of natural, god-given speed and reflexes; I see power in a similar light.

In terms of development, you're probably right that there wouldn't have been quite the necessity to develop such subtle skills if they had a big equalizer to fall back on.

I always thought Roy Jones has the talent to be one of the top 3 or 4 boxers ever. However, it never really panned out for him. But talentwise, he was right up there

Didn't Oscar de la Hoya win a Latin Grammy? RJ never even sniffed an award that prestigious.

I'll go out on a limb, and pick James Toney. Shame he had no dedication.
