You obviously havnt seen that many Tyson fights, he butts, elbows, hits on the break, hit while they're down and hits after a fights been stopped. He bit Holyfield purely out of frustration, he couldn't handle what Holy was dishing out fists, head and all. Plus his personal life outside of boxing was crumbling down around him, he was angry at the world.

Check out Dempsey - Firpo. After a KD Dempsey would stand directly to the side of Firpo waiting for his gloves to leave the canvas as he was trying to get up. As soon as they left the canvas it was fair game to hit the poor bastard some more. Not dirty as this was a;llowed in those days. Doesn't look too good, though

I don't think Holmes was DF (dirty first) as much as he is made out to be. And I also think the more people like certain fighters (Foreman, Holy) the less likely they are to mention that they go dirty. Foreman could be a bastard, you know. Joe Roman-. You don't stick your tongue out at George. When he fought Stewart and was getting mashed up, he went bollocks-happy, there to put a damper on him. He was ever-shoving guys to get his preferred range also. Holy-well, obvious. Lewis was just physical in every way. Dirty or not. He really was a natural man-handler type when you got past his more disciplined out-boxing.

I remember one moment where, and maybe my memory is faulty, but where his feet literally left the ground as he rushed to focus his weight on his forearm for his near-patented tire-you-out Manny Steward big man technique body draping move, right on the back of Botha's neck when he saw Botha's head dip. Granted, it's on the ref to call shit like that and it's effective as you can be, but it is dirty as hell too. I mean, it was like BHOP on Dawson, except much more blatant. But, think about having all of 250 pounds on the back of your neck, even for a millisecond. Much more effective than it is for BHOP. I'm surprised Botha didn't go down.

In the end, most of them have had something. Volo's excessive clinching and the patented aforementioned draping technique also. Tyson, obvious, even Frazier got his head in a bit. Most heavyweight champs, most of the best know how to utilise a little bit of dirty fighting without getting much called on it.

Besides the pushing to get his distance (and put the other guy off balance) George would also hold an oppnent's neck / head with one hand and wallop him with the other

Bowe.

He seems to get a free pass for some reason on his hitting on the break. Hitting after the bell. Low blows. And the guy threw an absolute ton of rabbit punches. And you could throw in his pre-fight antics/corner/entourage/post fight altercations to boot.

Lennox must have picked the holding and hitting up from him.

Bowe's fights were just insane. I mean, dirty, brutal, bizarre, race riots, non-race riots, DQ's, kicks, rabbit punches, testes-combinations, pregnant fainting, fan-men, Ali impressions, vicious kayos. If he and Tyson fought I bet it would've invited the single most chaotic event in heavyweight history.

I think Marciano's display against Don ****ell was one of the dirtiest ever. He did everything to Don in there.

Andrew Golota.... he had the WBA Fedelatin Heavyweight title so he was atleast a title holder and I don't think TS excludes them.

Holyfield and Tyson were dirty very much on purpose particularly I think Tyson, who I remember (4got which fight) being in clinches and repeatedly elbowing and butting.
bikoz it woz in most of his fights

100% agree.

****ell-Marciano is the first and only full Marciano fight I ever watched and I was very, very disappointed in what I saw.

It was sickening and I lost interest in studying Rocky right then and there.

I'm proud that the name of my favorite fighter of all-time, Smokin' Joe Frazier, does not seem to come up much at all on this thread.

RIP, Joe.

Marciano was a dirty fighter.
He was known by his peers as a dirty fighter.

I read where he was asked about this once by a sportswriter.

He admitted it but said he swore on his mother's life that he didn't realize he was doing these things when they occurred.

He may have been telling the truth. He could have been so focused on destroying his opponents that he didn't notice his fouls.

True or not, that didn't help the people on the receiving end of his dirty tactics.

that dirty trick the second coming of tyson used to do when he had the ref on the blind side and he'd be in a clinch and try and break his opponents arm.....of the top of my head i'm thinking about the botha and mcbride fights
