I think there's got to be a clear line between ''world champion'' and ''title holder''.
When did Calzaghe become ''world champion'' - his WBO reign of error was obviously turd but from Lacy onwards it was slightly better, culminating in the win over Kessler late '07. Hatton's reign as world champion was average. Maussa was a turd with a reasonable chin and a good hail mary.... Urango was average, Castillo had seen better days, ditto Lazcano and Paulie was made for him. The crushing defeat to Pac doesn't help matters, but a brave showing for the welter title goes in his favour slightly. |

Both Hide's reigns were very bad up until the Bowe fight (1st reign) and the Vitali fight (2nd reign)... of course he lost both by KO.
Pyatt's (although one of my favorite British boxers) reign was a WBO classic too. Until he was dismissed by Collins, who became a big name after. And Haye's reign was laughable. Ruiz was his mandatory, but seriously... it was still semi retired John Ruiz and the Audley defence was as bad as they come. McGrory's CW reign however was way worse. He defended 2 times against journeymen and lost by early KO to the 2nd. I remember watching that (on Eurosport, I believe), and I have to admit it was a hell of a bodyshot. So good ol' Glenn it is in my book. |

Sadly it looks like almost every world champ we've ever had is being named
Eubank and Benn seem the only two to have avoided the chop so far. Given McCrory and Nelsons history, you struggle to take their criticism seriously. If its Nigel Benn telling me so and so needs to man up and take a big fight, then theres that credibility and subsequently you are receptive to his words. |

Nelson's was abysmal.
He fought one good fighter in his entire reign and was very lucky to escape with a draw. |

Eubank's at 168 was pretty bad.
Obviously the fight with Watson was epic, but most of the defences were very shabby indeed. Not all the opponents were bad, but there were several dubious decisions along the way. Some very dreary fights. |

He didnt get in the mix with the other tops guys like Jirov, Gomez, Mormeck & Braithwaite but there are far worse WBO reigns of terror than Nelsons imo. |
