Default Valuev vs Lyakhovich

This is a really interesting fight.

Valuev really disappointed me in his recent fights. He was very under rated with much better movement and boxing skills than he was given credit for but his recent performances he seemed to get old and slow and ponderous. I suppose that can happen when you are that big, people that big may well age quicker and he has had injusry problems.

Lyakhovich is tailor made for Valuez. Lyakhovich is slow and ponderous and doesnt move his head that well so he will be very easy to hit. In previous fights Lyakhovich has taken a punch for everyone one he has given but against Valuev he is screwed because that will mean he will get KOed as Valuev has a titanium chin

What do people think - has Valuev declined so much and Lyakhovich improved so much to make this fight a toss up

I still think Valuev needs a switch in trainers. He does best when he swarms his opponnents...not when he jabs and throws slow rights.

He has switched trainers. He left Manvel Gabrellian after the Chagaev fight.

the thing to think about here is, if sergei fights the way he did against brewster (used very effective body shots) maybe he wears down the giant.... all depends where sergei's head is for this one.. i think after he won that brewster fight, sergei was satisfied with becomin a champ and wasnt motivated to defend... hopin here sergei is determined to be champ again and brings his A game.. we'll see

Valuev should win this fight handily, thumping his 1-2's effectively from long range and roughing Lyakhovich up on the inside. Sergei will never be hurt and he will go the distance, but I don't expect him to win.

Lyakhovich had a lot of trouble with Briggs because of Brigg's size and bulk. Valuev's size should give Lyakhovich similar difficulty.

good news. Hopefully he will be taught to use his strengths instead of finesse boxing.

Valouev by KO or TKO. Valouev never used his size to win fights, he was always boxing too much, good jab, but he needed to set things up and go in for the kill. He might be doing that somewhat now.

valuev can be outboxed.............even bergeron basically did it.

and liakhovich is better than bergeron.

the problem with liakhovich is that he hasnt fought in such a long time.

that is why i pick valuev.

Exactly right. I think it depends on how focused and well-trained Liakhovic is. If he's in great shape, then he can beat Valuev (if the judges are fair). I think his favorite punch, the right hand to the body, will work quite well against Valuev, who is a pretty poor counter puncher.

I like Valuev to win this one by late KO/TKO as well.

Liakhovich has short arms, he has the lenght of a 6'1 boxer and that will hurt him in this fight. Valuev will be able to hit him and stay out of his reach for most of the fight and he is a fairly good puncher.

I expect it to end in a similar way to the Briggs fight, with Liakhovich draining down in the later rounds due to too much punishment.

If Lyakhovich is in good shape ( A BIG IF, say under 240 pounds ) I like him to win a decsion. Lyakovich's skills and speed to me are a bit better. Valuev might hit a little harder, but its not enough to pull off a miracle come from behind type of TKO. At least that is what I think.

Lyahhovich himself is about 6'4, 235-240 pounds. He's not a small man at all. The second question to me is will Lyakhovich fight smart or not. I've seen him do some dumb things in the ring before....like brawling with Briggs late in a fight when he had the match won.

Valuev wont win a serious HW contender who stays sharp and is in shape. Chagaev fight showed that. And he had never made it that far without judges in Donald and Ruiz fights... and he also got very lucky year ago in Basel, because McCline I feel would have outpointed him, maybe even stopped him if it wasnt for his damn injury.

Lyakhovich in his day beats Valuev by UD. Lets see if it´s his day...

Valouev should knock Lyakhovich out, or, at least TKO him.
