Strikeforce set to close its doors in January; Females to the UFC

Ronda Rousey is on the verge of making history.

The Strikeforce women's bantamweight champion has fought her final fight for the promotion and is set to make her UFC debut in the near future, TMZ reported Thursday night. The Web site also reported that the recently announced Jan. 12 Strikeforce card in Oklahoma City will be the promotion's last.

MMAFighting.com confirmed with sources close to the promotion that both news items are in fact true and more information is expected to be released early next week.

It is unknown at this time when Rousey and the rest of the Strikeforce women will make their debuts in the UFC, but it will most certainly happen at some point next year. Women have never fought inside the Octagon during the UFC's 19-year history.

Strikeforce and Showtime officials refused to comment on the story when contacted by MMAFighting.com. Rousey's manager Darin Harvey would also not confirm the story when asked for a comment.

Looking forward to seeing Rousey, Tate and Cyborg in the UFC, but I'm not sure how good this is gonna be for the UFCs public image. This won't help them get legalised in New York.

I hope this means that all the big names on the Strikeforce roster are going to be absorbed into the UFC.

Mousasi, Jacare, Melendez, Marquardt, Feijao, Rockhold, Kennedy, Masvidal, Mein, Larkin...the list goes on.

On topic, Strikeforce going under was a forgone conclusion. I'm still pretty shocked about the women's division in the UFC. I guess that Zuffa brass really does like Rousey.

Women's cricket is fucking hilarious. Nobody can bowl above slow-medium pace, and they bring the boundary ropes WAY in and still nobody can clear them. They might as well just set the MCG's infield ring as the boundary.

Some good fielding and decent slow-paced bowling on display though.
