Default Chris John Deserves More Credit

Hes a top p4p fighter, has beaten some very good names, and has defended his title now 17 times. He continues to be incredibly underrated by people in boxing despite his skills and accomplishments. He also has shown that he is not afraid to defend his title in his challengers backyard.

John has chosen to stay undefeated by fighting no ones. Gamboa was always willing and ready to fight him and he never showed any interest. It's not how many times he's defended his Title it's that he's never faced the best. Gamboa would have made a Cuban sandwhich out of him IMHO.

He beat JMM, an opponent who eclipses all of Gamboa's. Get over it.

And Gamboa has stayed undefeated by not fighting at all. Johns Opposition is MUCH better than he gets credit for. The talent pool in the east is a lot deeper than you think.

He gets a Joe Calzaghe level of respect. That's about all he deserves imo.

He should be fighting the best at the greatest venues, which are predominately in the U.S.

Unfortunately because he fights at home he will be all but forgotten to most of the world when all is said and done.

Yordan made Guerrero quit after a couple rounds, John beat the snot out of him.

He gets overlooked because he hasn't fought much in the US, and his team has protected the heck out of him. 17 defenses, sure, but he's only beaten one great fighter (JMM, which wasn't a gift in my mind) and a few pretty good ones (Yordan, old Derrick Gainer, Enoki, and Juarez) but a lot of junk after that. Better than, say, Omar Narvaez, but I'm not super impressed by the list of opponents, and it this point I'm afraid he's too faded to do anything to remedy that.

As for the 'other people's backyards' argument, here's the list of guys he's beaten in their backyards:

Rocky Juarez (actually a robbery draw, but whatever) - went on to lose his next 5 fights)
Hiroyuki Enoki - lost 3 of his next 4 before retiring
Zaiki Takemoto - was 21-6-1 against all domestic Japanese competition
Tommy Browne - had just got his ass kicked by In Jin Chi and subsequently lost to "prospects" Willie Kickett and Lenny Zappa.
Osamu Sato - was 2-1-2 in his previous 5 and retired after this one

Every other fight was either in Indonesia or somewhere nearby that his team picked.

JMM wasn't a gift, I had him up by 1 or 2 rounds.

John hasn't left home much because he is a major draw there. Like Mayweather in the USA, Klitschko in Europe or Haye in the UK.

And if you watched John's fight earlier today he proved he had ***** against an excellently game Thai opponent in Singapore.

The trolling is over the roof in the forum. I mean damn I mess around a bit but never a serious thread around anymore.

We need guys like I.B. back here. When I first joined this site there was a lot of knowledge but it seems the trolls have flooded it over.
