Oh no, wait... where's Joe, Bernard, Roy or anyone of them you care too mention.

Maxim's era PROVED for All-time... these guys have to be questioned in (or out), to be proven capable or not, of the same demands!

Calzaghe didn't utilising modern conditioning techniques, which was my point.

Calzaghe was genuinely special in my opinion. I think he would beat Maxim.

I think Joe Calzaghe takes it.

His H2H ability far outweighs his resume IMO.

I am slightly inclinded to picking Joe Calzaghe, but my only hesitation is that he fought only twice at light heavyweight and against aging foes ( Though Hopkins was still formidable ) who both floored him. Maxim might very well be one of the few all time greats in that division who I'd favor Calzaghe to beat, but I don't think there are too many others.

Joe had the talent and the era to go down much greater than he did. Once he'd knocked out mitchell he should have immediately moved up to lhw and got stuck in the jones-tarver-johnson-woods-hopkins-dawson love fest. Considering the relative stage of career there's only hopkins and tarver who'd have put up a real fight but either way it would have better to unify that division over the marquee names rather than fight bums for 3 years until belt holders at smw were willing to take him on.

I'll roll with Maxim, who beat better fighters than Calzaghe.

Calzaghe is better H2H than in terms of what he actually achieved, but not that good IMO. I'm not sure he'd be any more hassle for Maxim than vice versa.

Maxim, close decision over 15. I can see the other side, just not particularly ****d to debate

Honestly I don't know, but his name comes up a lot and has been in there with a hell of a lot of the best ones.

EDIT - After double checking his record, I'd have to say that his career was pretty impressive.. He was stopped only once in 115 fights, won the lightheavyweight crown on like three separate occasions, if I read that right. Defeated a lot of top men, including a few heavyweights like a peaking Walcott, and mostly lost via decision to the best around.

Ring Magazine's all time light heavyweight rankings. This was from a 2002 issue, but I can't imagine much has changed with the exception of Roy Jones, who's career is still active.

1. Ezzard Charles
2. Archie Moore
3. Michael Spinks
4. Tommy Loughran
5. Bob Foster
6. Jimmy Bivins
7. Harold Johnson
8. Maxie Rosenbloom
9. Billy Conn
10.Matthew Saad Muhammad
11.Victor Galindez
12.Jack Dillon
13. Battling Levinsky
14.Joey Maxim
15.Dwight Muhammad Qawi
16.John Henry Lewis
17.Bob Fitzsimmons
18.Gene Tunney
19.Virgil Hill
20.Marvin Johnson

Maxim is listed at #14. Once again, these ratings were from 10 years ago, so I don't know how or if they've changed, but I'm guessing he's probably still close to that range. Roy Jones is the only fighter over the past 10 years who might have added an addition to this list, but I don't don't where or if he's been placed. Being a top 15 ranked fighter in a division as talent packed as light heavyweight Is probably the equivalent of being top 10 in most other weight classes.
