My record is 7 fights 0 wins should i quit?
I dont' want to but feel like if i continue losing il be a laughing stock. When i started boxing my aim was to someday be good enough to win an amature title but now i don't think thats going to happen. I'm 21 now and a failure at this sport |

I went 0-6 and am now 13-12. Not a great record but certainly turned it around somewhat. If you've been getting stopped a lot then either you're not being matched right or you're not good enough. If not then don't give up if you want to fight.

Lots of things to consider here: How long were you training before your first bout? How often do you train? Have you got suitable sparring and how often do you spar? How have you been matched ? i.e. have you been matched with heavier, more experienced opponents? Have you been competitive in your bouts? i.e. have they been fairly close? How's your fitness? What club are you at? Are you over weight? Any videos? I can tell you this, I have seen plenty of lads with a similar record to you, and there is nothing at all wrong with them. A young lad comes to our gym to spar sometimes and he has a record of 6 losses and 1 win. He is actually very, very good, I almost couldn't believe he had only won one bout. Another lad from my gym had only won 1 out of 5 at one stage. He's just won his last 6 bouts and has stopped 4 of them. You will start winning if you stick at it mate. PM me if you prefer. |

If you're taking a lot of punishment you should better quit, not worth it risking your health and later life performance for foolish pride.Getting punch drunk is no joke.Otherwise keep up and work a lot harder for a bit more and then see what happens

You are not a laughing stock. And you certainly dont have to quit.
Realize where your mistakes are, maybe ur cadrio is bad, maybe u are not getting proper opponents(too good for starters).Did you see your fights? I have a friend that lost 12 fights in a row. And do not listen to that masterclas crap advice. Last edited by pecho26; 11-11-2012 at 04:31 PM. |

Even though I've never fought I DO understand your confidence is hurt. Talk to your coach(es) about your concerns. If YOU enjoy it why do YOU care what ANY ONE ELSE THINKS? I suck at playin football (American) but I'll still play with my buddies and have fun makin a fool of myself droppin the ball. I have a blast with it. If YOU love or enjoy boxing dont give up. Express your concerns. Those other factors that were mentioned (records of opponents, weight fitness etc) are important. Good luck dont give up!!

I think the only one that can answer this question is you.
Does an impressive record matter? Or do you compete for the love of competing? Did you lose 7 fights because you fought badly against weak novice opponents - or did you have wars with top opponents and just didn't get lucky? In any case, I understand it can be humbling. But 21 is still young. You have plenty of time to turn it around if you want to. |
