Default If St. Pierre loses...

Do you take much away from his legacy? Would he still be top-2 or 3 all-time, in your opinion?

If he loses he should not retire. Lots of fighters have lost after major knee surgeries and/or long layoffs without necessarily losing their greatness. Shogun immediately comes to mind. (I'm not saying Shogun was AS good after his knee surgeries, that's another thread altogether).

If he loses he will probably be given an immediate rematch. If it is apparent, say, that his power double is very weak in this fight but stronger in a rematch, or if you see his knee give out, or something like that than this fight will not greatly reduce his standing, assuming he avenges it later. Just my opinion.

In MMA I don't think it is as simple as a win is a win and a loss is a loss when you are discussing the greatest fighters of all time. Silva is widely regarded as greater than GSP because of HOW he wins. Shogun's loss to Forrest is oftentimes discounted because he was coming off of a long layoff and knee surgery, and later he avenged that loss.

Nice post codeman

another way of puting it - if Condit wins how much is that down to GSPs injury?

Something else to consider - if GSP comes back a shell of the fighter he once was, that could only be great for a Jones vs Anderson superfight

He's talking about Georges, not Anderson.

haha, all-time great. UFC is still way too fresh to be talkin about ATG. wait another 40-50 years and then we can ask that.

GPS is nowhere near an ATG.

I agree; it is ridiculous to call him "an" ATG of MMA. He is "the" ATG of MMA.

"the" ATG?

Explain.

MMA has been a public sport before the 1950s. Please tell me why GPS is "the" ATG by comparing what he does today, compared to what his predecessors in the sport did before the color tv.

I won't contest that GPS is "the" ATG, but you better be able to explain why or I will know it is because you want GPS to **** your asshole

He showed once and for all he can come back from adversity in a fight.

He's cemented himself as one of the greats.

Anderson will waste him no problem though. I'd prefer to see Spider Vs Jones and GSP Vs Hendricks.

There has always been a question mark over GSP's ability to recover from adversity. He showed he can in this fight - Condit had him badly hurt and he fought his way back and ended up winning most of the round.

I wouldn't mind GSP-Hendricks either. Hendricks has an outstanding wrestling pedigree and flat out scary one-shot power. If GSP eats one of those bombs in the first round or two, it's Serra 1 all over again. And that's no disrespect to GSP.

GPS only pulled through because Condit got a hard on and couldn't control himself.

This is what pisses me off about the current state of MMA. There are so many fights when a guy gets dropped and the history of the sport has shown that you gotta calm down, and pick your shots and the fight is yours... But we keep getting these assholes who can't finish an opponent like GPS and Conduit who do this Mark Coleman bullshit and it's just a goddamn embarrassment to the sport.

Yep, GSP is a real embarrassment to the sport and you are a true credit to the fanbase. If only there were fewer GSPs and more SuperHuts eh.
