Cracks me up how some 'boxing fans' focus on losses that happened to wlad almost a decade ago

Chisora was blowing less than Haye. Does that make him more athletic than Haye then?

The Haye-Wlad fight showed that Wlad could at least match an athletic smaller fighter for speed. Id actually say Wlad had the faster footwork of the 2. Awesome athlete

This from memory, universum was putting pressure on sanders to rematch wlad, but he wanted another fight first, now I believe that he was obligated for two fight for them for fighting for the wbo belt. Sanders dumped the belt instead of setting up a rematch, I mean universum was pretty aggressive back then, an had more power, more champs in there stable.

I have no link, this shit was 10 years ago, I might have old ring magazine might say it....

If true that's fine and good. But you don't need a title on the line to avenge a loss.

And how do you do that? You actively pursue the rematch!

You think that's how promoters think? Universum had a TV contract at that time (10 years ago), they need a belt holder in order to get their fights on TV. Their #1 interest was to get Wlad a new belt, not to rematch Sanders (unless he had a belt).

Wlad only became a free agent in 2004, before the Brewster loss. I think Sanders 40 years old and pretty much retired by then.

Wlad was with HBO at that time if Im not mistaken, so getting a tv contract wouldn't have been an issue. You make my case for me by saying "Their #1 interest was to get Wlad a new belt". He had a rematch clause and could have enforced. He didn't and Sanders went for the more prestigeous belt, end of story.

Are you retarded? Wlad's promoter tried to enforce the rematch clause, Sanders wasn't interested in honoring it, he went to sign with Lewis/Ogun, breaching his contract with Universum, dropped the WBO belt and went to fight for the WBC belt. Wlad left Universum by early 2004 IIRC. Wlad personally never had any options on Sanders, his promoter did. Universum sued Sanders, battled him in court for almost two years.

That's how things went down, yet you blame Wlad for "not enforcing" a rematch clause

I realize this may be a complex subject matter but it's not that complicated. I am not sure what part you don't understand.

Yes, you are mistaken. Wlad individually was never with any TV station until after he left Universum. Universum at that time of the Sanders fight had a contract with ZDF, a German station paying around 10 million Euros a year in order to broadcast all of Universum's fights. HBO only came in every once in a while, buying the fights off ZDF/Universum on a "pay per broadcast" basis, essentially picking the ones they were interested in.

Universum's interest was owning belts so they could honor their contract with ZDF, who made them the most money and offered a long-term and reliable stream of revenues. HBO was quite irrelevant as they paid peanuts for the broadcasting rights of European fights.

That's the last thing they have left. The last decade was no fun for these "boxing fans".
