Default How is boxing harder then MMA?

I'm a 100% boxing fan, i hate everything about MMA, the idea of it, the fans (no offense to any MMA fans) but I always hear people saying boxing is harder which i do believe but at the same time, why is that? With MMA you are using kicks and wrestling, usually learning many different styles (Muay thai, greco roman wrestling, boxing..) I would love to start a debate about this with a friend of mine thatts absolute crazy for MMA. I feel with MMA its all about size and strength and less about skill. what are your thoughts?

Its harder, because the sport progressed so much through time. To be able to be remotely competitive you need to dedicate a good portion of your life to boxing. You need at least a year or two to be able to compete at the lowest amateur levels. This requires technique, conditioning and thinking because there is so much intricacies and complexities.

As for pro boxing,- to be able to compete here you need to immerse yourself in the sport. Really get deep into it,- in terms of technique, endurance, conditioning, psychology etc. Going 12 rounds is an incredible feat.

Whereas in MMA you explore a couple different sports to a very basic level. You get in the cage and its all mediocrity, because there is no mastery of one discipline- just various levels of competency in many.

Boxing is harder because there is so much complexity to it.

You only have one option in boxing. In mma if you have weird upper body mechanics that just make striking awkward for you like Phil Davis you can always grapple and make a decent living.

New thread: Why is basketball harder than soccer?

In basketball you run, jump, shoot, defend. In soccer? Those pussies only use their feet.

I wouldnt say its exactly harder, but if you dont have a chin u cant be a boxer, you could make it into mma if you have NASTY ground game, takedowns, and your slick with a bad chin. Also boxers are most likely going to be more elite athletes since they get paid more and its more likely for someone to try out boxing when they are younger then mma. This is begging to change tho. Also if you happen to have shit punching power or something u cant just work more on knees or ground game or something.

In terms of getting competitive it's probably harder.

You need to be well rounded on all aspects to be able to reach somewhere in MMA while in boxing you need to train for just the pugiligtic aspect.

However, in application I won't say MMA is harder, there are no other means of getting by in boxing. If you're getting beat, you can't try a takedown, or stick to clinch, or pull guard, and there's no lay and pray.

You need to try and punch your way out of it.

**** off back to the fields you peasant!

"It seems like you have trouble expressing yourself...." I write some of the most detailed technical striking threads on the forum noob!

I'm just sick of this topic predictably appearing every couple of weeks. If I only had a penny for everytime I've foolish responded to one of these ridiculous MMA vs Boxing threads!

Anyway anytime some says something as ridiculously ignorant as this: "Boxing is harder because there is so much complexity to it." I know they have no idea what they're talking about, so rather than raising my stress levels I switch off! No skin off my nose..........

boxing will always be harder to master because your refining one skill to excellence as opposed to several skills to competence.
with that said though mma guys generally work FAR harder than boxers.

the amount of emoticons in your posts does indicate that you do have trouble expressing yourself, and that you do in fact have aspergers.

Just accept the fact that MMA and other sports are inferior to boxing, and stop being so butthurt. It makes you look like a retard
