Watching Seth Mitchell yesterday can we say one of the biggest adjustments an athlete from another sport going into boxing is the ability to take a punch? Is it more than an adjustment then genetics?

You can't train a chin. If it's glass, it's glass. And it sure does seem that a lot of these former football players have china in their mandibles. That must be why they make them wear helmets in their own game.

Was it Mitchell's chin? He didn't get knocked out cold, he just took a lot of solid punches. Punches that he didn't have the experience to ride out or to get away from. Mitchell might have a weak chin, but taking solid, direct shots will affect anybody. He didn't just take one shot and collapse, he got hit with a lot of punches.
It's going to be difficult to transition from a sport where athletes plays "tense" for 2-4 second bursts, to a sport where the athlete needs to be "relaxed" while punching and avoiding being punched for 3 minutes at a time. There isn't much carry over from football to boxing other than both sports have contact. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() He was fighting Banks who wasn't even a power puncher at Cruiserweight for Christ Sakes. Imagine if that had been Wlad in there last night punching him. Mitchell had been hurt before by other light punchers. He has a Glass Jaw. This isn't up for debate people. How can you not see this?

From last night's performance, Mitchel may have been first hurt by a glancing left and the follow up punches were more solid.
It is just that alot of times I see athletes trying boxing and sure they get outboxed, but they also show a chin that doesn't have the quality for boxing. |

Sergio Martinez remains the only high profile fighter who came to boxing at a late age from another sport (soccer and cycling) and found success, and his chin isn't the reason he's done so. |

boxing skills and things you do on instincts are. things that are second nature to fighters that started as a youth are things that young adults who started have to think about. hopefully mithchel can come back from this. don't like to see any fighter ruined but he clearly looked like he folded under pressure even after the first knock down like he was about to cry. a fighter with good amatuer background would of gotten up stayed calm weather the storm and lose the round but tie him up or try to run.

A good grasp of solid fundamentals is essential. Experience, in other words. You can't expect a guy to learn in three or four years what it takes basically a lifetime to learn.
