Default How much money did Seth Mitchell's promoter & manager lose last night?

The people behind Mitchell must have invested over a million bucks building him up. That's investment money that cannot be recouped unless Mitchell gets big fights with the K Bros, becomes a world champ, or turns into a TV fan favorite. Obviously, Mitchell will never win a world title. He will never be good enough to fight a K Bro. His credibility is permanently ruined with the fans.

How much did Golden Boy, Al Haymon, and others lose on Mitchell? Their investments washed down the drain last night.

HW Boxing once again will be dead on HBO.

Yet another HBO "house" fighter getting exposed.

chill. you sound a bit angry. hbo bought him to show and present his manager is there for the ride...thus why i hate the economical structure to boxing.

yeah they will have to set him up with route a, route b or route c.

a.fight rematch/scott/arreola/gerber to reaffirm himself in the division. honestly banks was well ranked so this loss doesn't eject mitchell out of the top 10 maybe 8,9 or 10.

b.try and wrangle a title fight. even with povetkin who might see some u.s. exposure.

c.bum of the month club for 2/3 years then get back into the picture with sparking out an up and comer.

The networks pay mitchell, they invested in him. His manager and promoter take a % of that.

But how much has Mitchell been paid so far? I doubt that his paydays against Iggy, Spoon, and Banks were that much. At this point, the money invested in Mitchell must be less than the total his people earned from him.

That's not how the boxing industry works. The reality is more complex and less rosey than you realize.

Golden Boy still has Wilder all they will do is now push him on HBO instead of Mitchell. He can be their Plan B so to speak until he too is embarrassingly KOed by handpicked opposition.

After checking around, I've found that GB and Haymon may have broken even on Mitchell up to this point in time. That's because the revenue generated by Seth's three HBO appearances could have compensated for what was invested in him earlier.

However, it will cost money to continue developing/marketing Mitchell. That will be expensive. The continued investment won't yield a payback unless Seth gets a big fight against the K Bros. We all realize now that Mitchell vs the K Bros. will never happen. No possible way. Add to the equation the likelihood that, during his "comeback," Mitchell will be highly vulnerable to getting knocked off by some hard hitting clubfighter (no defense, no chin). This will make GB and Haymon that much more nervous about continuing to invest.

Big question is, will Seth go clubside now, or will he move on to other things. I say he should retire: he's got a college degree and his job prospects aren't bad.

Someone needs to screencap De la Hoya's face during the Mitchell fight.
between my adulation of watching Banks beat Seth down I seen Oscar's face at one pint with a "Oh Shit" face.

I would imagine that Al had to invest something. It's rare that a manager gets his name on a contract based on brainpower alone. The manager almost always fronts cash at the beginning. After that, he shops around for promoters.

This situation reminds me a little of HBO's flirtation with Derrick Jefferson. And, which network was it that was going strong on Cliff Ettiene?

no worries.

Seth Mitchell's promoter & manager probably bet heavily on Banks.

Seth Mitchell was a mirage from day one -- if he was a white guy we'd have never even heard of him.

HBO so badly wants the Great Black Hope, that they tried to manufacture one along with Haymon and GB.

But Mitchell has no defensive ability and a china chin. He was doomed from the get-go. Witherspoon should have knocked him out, but he's an idiot. Banks was good enough to get the job done, and Banks ain't very good either.
