But I get your point. I'd disagree with those that say Burns is "ducking". That's just silly. No doubt Frank, understandably, would first attempt to get Broner to come here -- as he'd want every advantage for his fighter -- but that in no way will automatically mean he's ducking him, because I expect Burns to eventually go over there and face him. Ali's most famous fights were abroad, Marvin Haglers TKO of Alan Minter is regarded as a stand out moment in his career, Gerald Mclellan took part in one of the great fights in London, one of Sugar Ray Robinsons most famous fights was in London, Julian Jackson, Winky Wright, and many more yanks had career defining fights when they got on a plane.
The USA is the home of boxing but it's a global fuckin sport and fighters get more respect when they travel, wherever they're from. |

It is a clear double standard.
Sure there are more than a couple of factors to consider like Broner does happen to live in the country where the biggest fights take place and he does happen to have HBO behind him. But it doesn't change the fact that certain people that are defending what he said would be tearing Burns a new one if he had came out with the same. Anybody denying this is just telling lies I am afraid. |
