Norton had won the second Fight? it was a split decision after all. At that point he would of lost to frazier and norton twice.

Just for the record i had it ali 7-5.

Good question. I think he said that he would've retired, but I wonder... He was such a draw that he might well have got a title shot anyway if he continued, but you never know. Really hard to say.

Ali would have continued, but the thunder that drove him would have been lessened to some degree.

It would have not made much diference to Ali's body of work in retrospect, but it might have taken some lustre off it in the short term.

What it would have done is made Norton a lineal heavyweight champion which would have boosted Kens standing, and which could have had some indirect concequences.

Norton is now a Joe Walcott type figure and anybody who beat him would also go up historicaly, especialy if it was for the title which he now held. If Ali had beaten any of them then that would increase the value of those wins.

So it could all get rather complicated.

Phew!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think Ali would have retired but I'd say it's a good bet that Dundee and Pacheco would've encouraged him to retire.

Just for the record, Norton won all three fights. The third fight ranks high on the robbery scale IMO, with Lewis vs Holyfield I and Leonard vs Hearns II.

Losing the second Norton fight would have signaled that Ali's fix machine could no longer be depended on.

It would have been the end of the road.
He would have retired, just as he has said he would.

Norton won second fight, the thing is they would not let Ali lose. Same in second Frazier fight, if Ali loses two in row, anyone realize how much money promoters, reporters, sports writers, publishers and many others, lose out on? Ali sold not cause of ability, but controversy and political following. Reporters would get asked to do extra articles for his fights, therefore more pay. So they overlooked bad decisions, even defended them.
Promoters made way more if Ali fought, so they made sure judges and refs would 'Do right thing"

Norton beat Ali big in fight 3, but they would not let him have title. Not then.

he would have kept on fighting and his legacy would still be intact yet with more argument to say he was not the greatest.

He would have bitched about the decision.

Then beat Frazier, then beat Foreman.

I believe Muhammad may have retired had this come about. Temporarily. He'd have come back and got a shot against George Foreman, and won.
