Well, I am almost 28, no ambition in boxing competition, but I am planning to become a coach one day. So now I am gathering experience, visiting as many gyms as I can. Also, I develop and online resource where I dump all the knowledge.

Hmph, I really don't know either, other than I enjoy it.
Just started doing it casually with no intent to compete abt 1.5 yrs ago. Next thing I know, i'm competing (fight #6 this Sunday). I actually have more reasons NOT to do it right now. But heck, I just enjoy it so much. |

I got in to it to stay in shape after leaving the military, release stress, stay sane and just have something that is my own (with things such as family time, school, work, side projects, etc...everyone needs their own place to go and escape for a while).

Once you start, it's hard to stop - if I don't train for a couple of weeks I start getting a strong urge to get into the gym ASAP, unfortunately I don't have enough free time these days

To keep in shape. In my mid-20s, I'd say it's the time where people get fatter because they start getting jobs. It's scary, fit people I knew now are starting to sport beer bellies. I'm not super fat but I cannot fit well in my high school jeans and that's scary as well.
I appreciate boxing's history and culture. Professional boxers like Bernard Hopkins serve as a certain personal inspiration, not in all areas of life, but in terms of dedication, efforts and sacrifice to their craft. To keep balance I guess. My life revolves around work. I am pretty anti-social overall but boxing is a sport where I find some common ground with others. But I think at the most basic level, I just enjoy it over other physical activities. I could simply run or lift weight and I would be in shape, but it gives me a great sense of satisfaction to see myself improve in boxing. I just miss the feeling of small achievement, even if it might seem humble to others. |

I do it to stay discipline, boxing teaches you the right mindset for body and soul (as corny as that sounds) but its true because if i wasnt boxing, i probably be a fat lazy bum who eats, drinks, and smokes all day. Boxing for me is a way out of that life and keeps me happy and sane like most people have already said. Also i box because i dont want to live a routine life, going to school finding a job and work work till i die. boxing is my motivation in life

im 17 and barely started a few months ago. well, not only am i in the best shape i've ever been in, but it's also a way to get my stress and aggression out. sometimes im a fuckin' sorry sight at school feeling pity for myself 'cause of people who keep screwing me over. But after training, it's hard to just feel sorry for myself and be pissed again. also, knowing i can fight somehow takes away that urge for me to fight all the time. i used to meet people and right away think about fighting them, God knows why. but now im alot less paranoid about people in general. im kind of crazy.
