Forrest Griffin vs. Phil Davis is a fight that isn't going to happen

With Chael Sonnen coaching "The Ultimate Fighter" and fighting UFC light heavyweight champ Jon Jones, Forrest Griffin needed a new opponent for UFC 155. Today, he got one in the form of Phil Davis, who just beat Wagner Prado in Brazil at UFC 153.

Griffin won a decision over the retiring Tito Ortiz at UFC 148 in July. This will be the fourth time in 2012 that Davis will fight. He dropped a decision to Rashad Evans in January, then his first fight with Prado ended in a no contest in August after an eyepoke stopped the bout.

This fight is another strong addition to the year-end card that is already looking
good. UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos will rematch with Cain Velasquez. Tim Boetsch and Chris Weidman will square off, Joe Lauzon will fight Gray Maynard, and Alan Belcher will meet Yushin Okami.

Of course, it's October. There are still six weeks until this fight card happens. With the luck the UFC has had this year, this line-up will not make it to Dec. 29. Every fighter on the card needs to be careful around mirrors, avoid black cats and ladders, throw salt at every opportunity, and just stay healthy.

uhm i think phil will try and work his standup a bit cause forrest chin is in question. If that dosent work the the takedown will most likely be there. so most likely i think it will be a standing fight and look for phil to shook near the end to win the rounds. As a huge forrest fan im taking Davis UD. This might be forrest retirement fight, that was rumored.

Forrest is the better striker but I just dont see what he can do to avoid being took down at wil by Phil Davis. Even an old, slow Tito got Forrest down almost at will. If Forrest commits to a gameplan early where he attacks the legs of Phil Davis I think he can have a better chance of keeping it on the feet where he is much more comfertable and active then Phil. Forrest has some pretty brutal leg kicks that we have forgot about.

Forrest is a good and busy striker while being tall and rangey. He is big and strong and if he isn't the better wrestler then he has a very active guard.

I'd like to see the size difference first because height, reach and size could play a decent part in the striking and grappling contest.

Davis needs to work on his striking still. But I think he'll take down Forrest, control him and win a UD.

A torn medial collateral ligament has forced former light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin out of a UFC 155 bout with contender Phil Davis, promotion president Dana White said Wednesday.

"Forrest has (an) MCL tear and (an anterior cruciate ligament) strain," White said on Twitter. "The saga continues at UFC."

Griffin (19-7) was originally scheduled to fight former top middleweight contender Chael Sonnen at the Dec. 29 event, which will be held in Las Vegas.

But Sonnen was removed from that fight after landing a coaching stint on next season's version of 'The Ultimate Fighter' opposite current 205-pound titleholder Jon Jones.

Sonnen and Jones will settle their differences at UFC 158 on April 27, 2013, in Newark, N.J.

Davis (10-1 with one no-contest) submitted Wagner Prado in the second round of their rematch on Oct. 13 at UFC 153. The first meeting between them ended in a no-contest after Davis accidentally poked Prado in the eye during first-round action.

UFC has not yet determined whether Davis will remain on the Dec. 29 card.

Griffin is the latest high-profile fighter to drop out of the event. Last month, middleweight contender Chris Weidman withdrew from a showdown against Tim Boetsch after falling victim to a shoulder injury.

Why on Earth they drill shit like this after so many years, and go hard in EVERYTHING during training I will never understand. Most of the MMA World is repeating these same mistakes, how fucking stupid.
