Padded Record:

Real Meaning: Someone who has been spoon fed easy opponents that pose little or no threat to the fighter, thus allowing them to build up a record that looks and sounds better than it really is.

Internet Meaning: Someone that hasn't KO'd anyone in the P4P list in the last 6 weeks and doesn't have the scalp of 95% of the active listed ranked opponents in their weight division, see also "bum" from the previous page....

There's Cleverly etc. but the phrase gets bandied around a little too easily, it's hard for a prospect of 10 fights to NOT have a padded record, they can't chuck them in with world champions straight away. The padded record thing usually comes up as an excuse after someone loses unexpectedly. Like Bute, before Froch destroyed him he was the man in the division according to some, afterwards he just had a padded record!

The real meaning: A fight that involves two fighters that have mainstream appeal and iconic status in the sport; who 'generally' meet at or near the peak of their powers, with at least an element of doubt as to who is going to win.

The Internet meaning: A fight between two unbeaten fighters; or a fight with a good clash of styles; or a fight involving one fighter with mainstream appeal and iconic status in the sport.
