i thought that was kanes style in the ams as well from watching a few of his fights. he is not a slick operator by a long way.
ryder was a class above really,when kane tried to box he was getting caught more,he was losing the inside game and then the long range game,good fight though.

Agreed BB. Eamonn is a seasoned boxer with good skills not the mindless brawler we have seen in prizefighter and against Ryder. It's a pity for Eamonn that it takes a comprehensive stoppage to make him reassess the gung ho style of out and out ineffective aggression coupled with blocking shots with his head. Hope he thinks about how he approaches his boxing rather than trying to blast people out; proper footwork, feints, head movement, tighten his defence, establishing his jab to build up combinations not Hail Mary wild hooks. I think Eamonn is under the impression that he needs to build a crowd pleasing style as he has come to the pro game late. However, abandoning the skills which made him a top amateur is not the way to go. I hope he learns from this set back and approaches future fights differently with a thought through game plan(s).

TBH last night wasn't only time he fought like that, He's not shown any subtle ability in recent times by looks of his PF display and last night.

I wasn't to far back and Ryder hurt him very early on. Probably one of the opening shots i saw O'Kane's face and he was shocked by the Gorilla's power.

O'Kane really disappointed me last night, he looked awful for a guy with such a good amateur pedigree.

Ryder put in a very solid performance, showed improvements defensively, stepped up the workrate and put his shots together when he needed to.

At just 23 years old, Ryder has a bright future.

O'Kane was appalling last night. I wasn't impressed with him in PF, but I dunno...I sorta assumed going into a 10 rounder it would be a chance for him to fight with a little more poise and technique. But he just didn't. Whether this was his style in the amateurs or not...he looks very bulked up at middleweight. I just wonder whether he's lost some speed, he looked like he was punching underwater.

Ryder showed some classy moves.

I'll hold my hands up and say this was my first time seeing Ryder, during the prefight shots I said to myself "fuck, that kid is built like a tank"

no wonder they call him the gorilla!! I was impressed, even from his flurries in the first ten seconds compared to O'Kanes novice swings it didn't look good.

I'll keep a close eye on John Ryder from now on

Ryder's classy and i think he's needed that exposure and that type of fight.

I think that may be it, you and TFFP have put it better than me, it wasn't so much his style as how painfully fucking slow he was and how telegraphed his shots were, it was ugly

Agreed, I remember in your prospects thread you mentioned Ryder as one of Britain's best prospects, he confirmed it last night IMO.

Like you say he needed the O'Kane fight last night, he seemed to be dawdling along against area title level fighters in his last two fights and didn't perform to his best, still has a lot to work on, but a talent no doubt.
