Burns definitely not fighting. Word put out that they offered the fight to Derry Matthews who declined. Matthews claiming on twitter that he didnt refuse the fight but told them to come back with a better offer than £15k for a non-title fight, which he accurately describes as an insult.

well old frank would say that wouldn't he, gutted for burns that he had to go through a gruelling training camp and he doesnt get the fight at the end, even if it was only Walsh or Ocampo, that must be horrible, no wonder he lost his temper!

That's pretty insulting to the people that have bought tickets for the show and also to Boxnation subscribers that he only offered 15k to keep the headliner on. Derry Matthews wouldn't have been such a bad fight either, expected to lose but perhaps make it entertaining for a few rounds at the beginning.

Derry should have took the fight for 15 grand though, if he done well against Burns he'd be on a higher level than he is now, if he lost it would be expected.

Rees was offered the fight with Burns - a figure of £50k was bandied about at the time.
However there was a sticking point over options, Allegedly wanted five apparently, though he insisted it was only ( Rees said on Boxrec that he wanted to remain a Matchroom fighter for the forseeable and has worked hard to get himself high in the rankings and might get a shot elsewhere in the next 12 months. As for Mathews, I don't blame him for turning down £15k, he's on a bit of a hiding to nothing, especially with only a few days notice. He'd be doing Allegedly a big favour so is entitled to a bit of a premium. |

It's not given him any prep time though and it's not for a title, he's also coming off a semi hiding from Rees and probably doesn't want to get bashed up again taking on a world champion at short notice without even a belt on the line if he did pull off the impossible.
£15k is decent money but not under the circumstances, you'd get twice that winning prize fighter! |

Derry's earned well this year, Plenty of hard fights aswell and fought last week so he's put some effort in this year. I think he's right to say no. He's not a kid, he's a guy who's held titles and knows his worth i got full respect for him saying no really.
