Default Marlon Starling Vs Simon Brown

Apparently Starling took majority decision. Anyone tell me how it panned out?

This was when Starling was on his way up and before he became champ.Brown had his moments but Starling's defence and inside fighting were too much for Brown.Starling was actully the agressor in this bout.Brown attempted to box Starling.

Starling was a little too experienced for Brown at the time....and may have been a little too good for Brown to beat at any point in their careers. It would have been good if there could have been a rematch between them when they were both title holders.

Brown was outclassed, but it was the begining of a long and successful streak for Simon. He would soon be avoided by a lot of guys during the late 80's.

This is a great thread by the way. One of my favorite points in history was the welterweight class of the 80's. It started with Leonard, Hearns, Duran and Benitez. Then later we had Starling, Breland, Honeyghan, S. Brown, G. Brown, Blocker, Davis, Mccgirt.

What a great era that was!!!!!!!!!!

Totally agree. Starling put dents in many a prospects record at this stage of his career, including Jose "The Threat" Baret as well. Many judged him to be a great learning experience and good barometer, but at the end of the day he showed his level as a barometer was much much higher than some had reckoned. Starling IMO was definitely the second best welter of his era, and also fought at his top level for much much much longer than the guy he was second too.

Easily Curry, he beat Moochie twice, the second time very convincingly and murdered McCrory. He also beat the dangerous Jones and very decent LaRocca. Curry's two wins over Starling and hammering of McCrory give him the title without debate.

Nah, i don't think Curry even had a prime at welter
He should have stayed at 154. MW was one step to many

You've totally lost me sorry. Curry's peak and prime is obviously at Welter, simple. He never did jackshit anywhere else at all, whilst at welter he attained the number 2 P4P title in boxing, not to mention his record there.

What other division was Curry in his prime at??? I always felt that welterweight was by far his best.

He could not make 147 long enough to leave a mark at this weight.
I never thought high of him anyway.
They even tryed to make a match with Hagler. What a joke
