Default Cunningham vs Adamek: The First Fight

As we edge into Christmas time and things slow down and boredom sets in lets look back at the first fight between these two ''fun fighters''.

Tomorrow night they do it all over again but at Heavyweight.

Only going to post the first 3 links as i'm not sure you can post all links to a fight now..

The atmosphere in New Jersey that night was incredible and the heart of both men was again fitting of our sport.

If you haven't ever seen it, watch it and if you have watch it again!!.

Great fight

Cunningham will beat Adamek tomorrow night imo. Adamek has faded badly since the Vitali fight & is slower than ever. If Cunningham can be patient & disciplined then I think he'll outbox Adamek quite comfortably.

Do you not think Cunningham has faded also?

Not as badly as Adamek has, he was boxing really well for most of his 2nd fight with Hernandez.

Adamek always struggles vs speed; Chambers beat him with one arm, Dawson went to town on him & Cunningham himself caused Adamek a lot of problems, without the knockdowns he wouldve won.

Adamek has slowed down considerably in the last year & has never been especially good defensively. Cunningham will beat him to the punch & if he uses the right tactics I think he'll win fairly clearly, bar the occasional wobble.

They do but it's called NBC Sports Network now.

The problem I have with Cunningham is he often lets fights get close on the cards. He starts well and then he slows down or gets caught with something. He's not usually able to convincingly outbox good opponents.

The first one was a very enjoyable fight. If the rematch is similar to the first bout, it'll be a great boost for boxing in America, as this card will be on free TV over there, like the Leo Santa Cruz fight was last week.

Fair assesment, i just think Adamek's experience at HW compared to Cunningham's will be the deciding factor, any word of the weigh in?

I remember after Adamek moved up to heavyweight, there were rumours about what he'd look like and then his team released a series of pictures to show his new physique. You could see he'd packed a fair amount of muscle on, and that definitely has had an effect on his speed.

The funny thing is, he added muscle but that has turned out to be counter productive to his more cautious fighting style at heavyweight. If he was going to box more, he shouldn't have added the muscle and if he was going to add muscle anyway, he should at least fight in a style which suits that added strength. At the moment, Adamek is caught between two styles and it just doesn't work. His body is built for war but he prefers to box.

The only issue for Cunningham is his chin. For someone with such awful punch resistance, it's surprising he's never been stopped but I do think Adamek has the power to finish him off in the rematch. If Cunningham boxes well and doesn't get caught with anything stupid, he'll win a decision but if he trades, he might get stopped, or at least lose so many points from knockdowns, that he loses a decision. I'm confident that Cunningham will outbox Adamek but whether that's enough, I'm not sure.

It was one of the best cruiserweight fights ever. Shame not a lot of people got to see it.

They're both faded quite significantly and neither was THAT good in the first place. I think USS will fight a lot more cautious in the rematch, circle Adamek and control him with his lead hand. The problem for Cunningham is he has very poor defensive reflexes. I think he may look slow at heavyweight.

He weighed 207lbs at the weigh in so i dont think he will be too affected by the move up. I think Cunningham will win more rounds convincingly but will ultimately end up getting stopped.
