Default Golovkin's unique left hook

Was watching against Proksa the left hook to the body just before the second KD, the thumb was facing his body on impact. Saw it gain in his training video displaying his power punching. Obviously this technique works for him. The question is this the proper technique to throw a left hook? All other fighters seems to have their thumb facing upwards. One would think having the thumb upward would be sturdier for the wrist and less chance of injury.

thumb inward is whats taught

most fighters dont use it as they think thumb upward is more natural and gives more power.

thumb inward is the way to go if you can do it

The thing that amazes me most about his left hook is he can land it from the outside with his arm almost fully extended but he's still able to turn it over and generate a tremendous amount of leverage on the punch.

I was told to have your palm facing you when you are punching barefisted.

But to punch with your palm facing you does feel more natural and it's a more confident punch for me anyway.

The one GGG does is his personal preference.
Thanks. Looks like two techniques are being taught and I think your preference is what I see how body hooks are thrown in all matches.

That's the way you're supposed the deliver a left hook.

thumb down, you generate more speed, power, and accuracy this way

similar to throwing any punch, youre create power by twisting your wrist to a certain degree.
