Default GGG vs. Michael Watson

How does today's GGG fare against Michael Watson, who schooled Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank (but got robbed)?

Watson gets forgotten at times but those were some very impressive performances.

Watson-Benn was like a middleweight Ali-Foreman, with less time spent on the ropes.

GGG beats all 3

Watson and Benn in close fights.

Schools Eubank.

Based on what? His resume doesn't back up that claim.

Watson was the goods.

But he had some durability issues and you've got to lean towards GGG exploiting that eventually.
Especially at the range he preferred to fight.

Not to say Watson couldn't defeat a puncher. He proved that.

Michael would made some recent titlists look very average if he had been around in the last few years.

We don't know how good GGG is because he hasn't fought anyone of note yet so yes resume is important. GGG is 34 and has one of the worst resumes in the sport for a so called elite fighter.

GGG has a better resume than anyone at welterweight aside from Bradley and Manny but that doesn't stop people from hyping those fighters. You act like GGG has a Wilder tier resume when he doesn't.

Wrong Danny Garcia's resume ****s on GGG's so does Lamont Peterson as well. GGG's resume is a cruel joke for someone as old as he is.

I agree, Watson was very good and it's a tough pick.

Watson would definitely have beaten some of the MW titlists in recent years, and as far as the lineal champs go...He beats Martinez and Taylor. Not sure about Pavlik and if the durability issue comes in. Pavlik had heavy hands and a good workrate. He didn't throw wide punches so I can see him getting through Watson's guard. I don't know if he'd land enough though, especially while taking Watson's counters. Not sure about Hopkins either, especially the Hopkins of 2004-05. I definitely did not think Hopkins would lose to Taylor, I thought he'd win comprehensively and exploit Taylor's many flaws, but that didn't happen. A younger Hopkins I would confidently pick to beat Watson.

Peterson doesn't have a resume at 147 and Garcia's only 147 name is Guerrero who is Rubio tier at this stage of his career.

We will never know as we have never seen Bumdog Millionaire in a real fight.
