Most of the people who post opinions on what should be the top 10 will have a top 20 or whatever "in the background."

Those who don't can still make an informed call on choices proposed by others.

I work in brackets, I find it's better because it allows me to keep an open mind when it comes to shuffling dudes about. So in my next clutch I have:

Vitali, Bradley, Mikey Garcia, Gonzalez.

I wonder should Kazuto Ioka now be included? Doesn't seem unreasonable given what just happened in Japan.

I'm glad Bradley, Gonzalez and Vitali are up there. Don't know enough about KI to express an opinion.

Brackets is a great way of thinking about it.

With divisional rankings, I mainly go by level of performance, A/A-/B+/B/B- etc, in the last 1-2 fights.

From a purist's pov, the same should apply to p4p rankings, but here, I consider more than just the last 1-2 fights.

if ioka rematches yaegashi at fly and takes the title there, he's gotta be in contention.

Then again of Bradley gets the fight with Marquez and beats him he should be a lock.

What if they rematch and Yaegashi actually receives the nod? (as he should've last time, IMO)

No shit, you had that to Yaeg? Hmmm, maybe i'll give that a re-watch. I take it you're not calling it a robbery or anything dramatic like that?

I think if Yaeg can beat him and then stage another defense against a legitimate fly he'd be in consideration.

I think it will be Bradley BTW, that gets a re-introduction.

Here's what I said in the RBR, still fresh off live viewing:

Both guys fought like champions; Yaegashi was the better man on the night (er, morning)

Granted, the crowd was a bit partisan with their "AKIRA! AKIRA! AKIRA!"* chants, but they were mainly there to support a Japanese unification match and were showing appreciation at times for both.

I don't think they had undue influence on me...or anyone who scored it for Yaegashi. The cheers and collective gasps came about because Yaegashi was indeed pulling some straight up boss moves, landing hurtful blows threaded between daredevil stunts where you were never exactly sure he'd land on his feet.

* (surprised no wisecrack'rs started in with a "Tetsuo!/Kineda!" call-and-response chant...)

...with this added regarding Kazuto, so it wasn't like I begrudged him the nudge. Especially given the cards' tightness.

Clear for me the other way but that's a fight that would stand a second viewing. My impression was that he finished considerably stronger.

I haven't seen the first fight but I wouldn't have it that straight forward. Ioka would have unified a division and then beat the reigning flyweight champion (not sure his legitimate his lflw belt is atm) plus he's unbeaten..if he does it clearly he erases the only blotch on his record.

That's a bit more impressive than vice versa. Like wlad is top ten now but of pianeta beats him noone would consider him p4p.

Ya feel me.

Yaegashi puts the hurt on former champion Toshiyuki Igarashi on the way to a clear unanimous decision win, 115-110, 116-109, 117-108.

In other news, Zaurbeck Baysangurov debuts at #10 at Junior Middle as James Kirkland exits for inactivity.

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

And Juan Francisco Estrada rockets to the #1 contender's spot at fly after brutalising Brian Viloria, who drops to three, and exits at pound for pound.

BORKED

Viloria's exit from the p4p rankings makes room for Timothy Bradley's re-introduction.

For other news, see the opening post!

Good stuff mcg.

I need to rewatch mares v darchinyan cos I'm sure at the time i had it a robbery.

Yamanaka and Moreno is a worthwhile debate as well, did ya get any further on that? I kinda get the sense Moreno is there by default (like Byrd at hw when everyone ranked above him retired)
