Done. He just kind of chomped his way to the top. My spider sense tells me he'll cement his position before Moreno gets going but we shall see.

The more I think about it the more I agree. It's difficult arguing for Moreno other than saying "just because". Yamanka was more impressive against darch as well in my eyes. Beat him up.

Just watched mares v darch, had it 7-5 so mares by 1 point. Stacked resume. Shame he never got the donaire fight.

So, how do you determine the number 1? By the level of opposition he's faced?

Well that's the trick of it, lots of different people stressing lots of different things which produces a given outcome.

As McGrain said, there are varying emphasis among members, but defeating the number one is a pretty good launching pad, especially when he is already ranked in the top ten. So, level of -recent- opposition is a big factor.

Carl Froch above Rigondeaux and Donaire? Ridiculous.

Why, cause he destroyed Bute? Thought Bute was ****...!

McG whats with Pac's high rating still? 2 controversial fights and being knocked cold keeps him #6.......above Mares and Wlad who've been consistently world class?

Just feels off to me. ie- Jones jr was dropped straight to 10 after the 2 tarver bouts iirc

Well there isn't really anyone behind him who is clearly better - that is, I don't think that Donaire, Rigo or Froch rank above him for the moment. Additionally, he was beaten by another top p4p fighter...the Jones situation was different due to the depth behind him and the fighter he lost to, but most of all the former. You can't arbitrarily drop a guy to a given number based upon a loss, it must be weighed in relation to what is happening elsewhere.

Plus, you're talking about The Ring p4p list, we're the TBR

Fair enough....

So if Bradley beats Marquez he shoots up the rankings?

It would do him no harm, that's for sure.

I gotta say...i have a lot of respect for Rigondeuax ....he took a lot of disrespect in that stupid staredown...won like a master...hell the guy's great IMO...didn't think he'd beat a monster like Donaire...

Saul Alvarez becomes the #1 contender in the 154lb division after a close (bizarre scorecards aside) victory over Austin Trout, who slips a spot to #3. Alvarez now takes the place of Trout, formerly #2, in being able to make a fight with Mayweather to crown a new light-middleweight champion. If Mayweather fails to sign for a fight at 154lbs after his meeting with Guerrero later this month, he will likely be stripped of his #1 ranking meaning a Trout-Alvarez rematch becomes the fight the division needs to establish lineage.

In other news, Nathan Cleverly and Tyson Fury both move up a spot in the light-heavy and heavyweight divisions respectively after doing what was expected of them versus solid if unspectacular opponents. Questions are being asked regarding Fury's chin after he was dropped by former cruiserweight Steven Cunnigham whilst Cleverly, now ranked at #4, really needs to take a look at one of the other fighters ranked in the top five after out-pointing the over-protected Robin Krasniqi. Bernard Hopkins seems to be the name mentioned most frequently.

I personally still have Floyd number one but it's wholly dependent on whether he stays in the division or not.
