Going to go with Jones, he just has better victories imo. Toney, Hopkins, Griffin, and Hill trump any single wins that Floyd has.

I voted mayweather, thought about it and was leaning to jones but may gets the nod. No doubt jones was the man, but his boxing ability came more from his Athleticism then skills. He couldn't be touched and had speed and reflexes that put him in a class of his own. Once he aged, he didn't have the boxing ability to keep him at the top. He didn't have the defense to protect his jaw, he relied on his super human Athleticism witch was god given but once that faded he was just old Roy.

Mayweather has god given Athleticism, he doesn't run out of gas has speed and reflexes that are world class. Mayweather uses these gifts, but his boxing IQ is far Superior to Roy's. he can Figure out his opponents and take away their advantages, he can change gears and adapt on the fly better then anyone. He's the most accurate and least hit boxer. Roy dominated his time is a hall of famer, mayweather will be placed far higher then Roy in the history books.

It takes a more special fighter to finish opponents or hurt them
continously while completely dominating them. Floyd is the better
technician, but roy was the more complete fighter. Roy also has the
much better legacy. Floyd only really had great wins at the lower
weights. I.e. corrales and JL castillo. Hasn't had a marquee win since
then because he's fought over the hill or smaller or just inexperienced
heartless guys(ortiz) Roy beat 2 future HOF'er and 1 current HOF'er
at or near there peaks. Won an actual respected world title in 4
classes, IBF 160, IBF 168, every belt at 175, WBA at heavy. Floyd,
only 2. Linear at 130 and 135, and i won't give him credit for 147
because baldomir was the weakest of the RING champs of all time
and there were more dangerous fghts at 147 that floyd ducked. 140
he did nothing. Yes, i mean Gatti too. oscar was beyond shot and
nothing more than a manufactured 'Beltholder' at 154. History books
20 yrs from now will shine down brighter on Roy than they will on
Floyd.

Jones is an out of this world talent.

Can't find the article now, but there is an article that talks about how Griffin sparred with both floyd and Roy. Roy had the faster hands, the two weren't even comparable.(And weighed 30 more lbs!)

Roy may have been the biggest talent to ever step in the ring!

Floyd by far and I don't like either guy... Roid was ducking guys like the plague and fighting nothing but bums until he got owned by Tarver. Floyd never stepped in with the kind of bums the Roy tended to fight.

Roy in no way shape or form is a bad pick...but Floyd's body of work gets grossly underrated on here....especialy when Hill and Griffin are better than anything on Floyd's resume?!?! Really?!?!

I think Roy Jones masterclassing James Toney settles the question...

Tough one. Roy was the greater natural talent he did things in the ring that we have seen no fighter ever do he was just on another level, if he had the desire he could have gone down as the greatest ever.

Mayweather was also very athletically gifted just not on RJJ's level. But he was the far better technician, he showed in numerous fights he could adapt to his opponent and turn fights his way. He was the more complete fighter due to his rings smarts and generalship.

But RJJ has the better resume, but this is mainly due to him fighting in deeper divisions. It's well known both cherry picked but Jones avoided more possible big fights and Mayweather avoided one of the biggest fights ever in Pac.

Mayweather may not have wins that compare to Toney or Hopkins and I always judge fighters on what they have done not what they could have done so I give Roy Jones the edge here. But Mayweather is still competing at a high level, a win over Canelo and later wins may add enough to his legacy to overhaul RJJ, especially if Mayweather does a Hopkins and fights well beyond his prime and keeps winning which is always possible.
