Default Quick piece of advice

Hey guys,

I'm currently training in boxing and loving it, however I've noticed that my trainer seems to throw in some MMA techniques, specifically using the left glove against the opponents face to set up an overhand right, and to sort of boss the opponent around the ring (apparently this is what Jon Jones does) - just wondering if this is common?

I don't mind it, but I also don't want my boxing training to be hindered by drifting off with MMA moves - because I ultimately want to get into a space where I can compete in boxing, not MMA.

Let me know your thoughts guys!

Thanks

IMO best way to use lead hand for blocking view is when opponent uses high guard. His own gloves already narrows field of vision.

Dont work very well against opponent with good head movement, atleast not in my experience..

Have you ever watched Ali? He did something similar but I'm not sure if that is what you mean.

Haha, he's teaching you to hit and hold?
Yea that works if the ref isn't looking but it is pretty damn dirty.

Haha, I'm not sure if it's hit and hold - I think I'm describing it pretty badly lol, it's like the second poster said - it's kind of similar to what Ali did, it's only used to lead up the straight right, but you basically block the opponents field of vision with the lead hand so he can't see the straight right - it's not 'holding' per say

sounds like you're talking about "measuring". it's illegal in amateur boxing, and will get warned in pros if it's too excessive.
