Yeah, Chicanito was very, very good when at his best.

His performance against a faded, but still legit Azumah Nelson was damned impressive, especially given the fact that he could have easily settled for a DQ victory after getting clocked with a shot to the throat after the bell.

yep he had heart only lost to DLH who ended up fighting as high as middleweight and a young upstart Mayweather in a very exciting fight. He was the man at 130 @a long time and dominated a good era at the weight. He was always one of my favs the west coast had alot of tough fighters between 118 to 130 in the 80s and 90s he was one of the best. What do you think was his best showing

Very underrated.

Some people out there don't rank him top 10 ATG at 130 somehow. I think it has got to be obvious trolling or agenda driven posters who will do anything to discredit Mayweather (there are a lot of them on ESB).

8 successful defenses of his WBA super featherweight title and 3 defenses of his WBC super featherweight title in his second reign after the Oscar defeat, which was his only significant fight not at 130 pounds, Paez aside, and the highest weight of his career (133 pounds).

38-2-1, KO 17
91- W TKO9 Daniel Londas (French fought in France) - for vacant WBA title
92- W UD12 Masuake Takeda and W TKO6 Yuji Watanabe (both Japanese fought in Japan)
93- W KO8 Raul Perez II (rematch of their 1 round technical draw)
94- W UD12 Jimmy Garcia
95- W TKO8 Jorge Paez (both weighed in at 131 pounds)
95- L RTD6 Oscar de la Hoya (@ lightweight)
97- W SD12 Azumah Nelson - for WBC title
97- W SD12 Anatoly Alexandrov
97- W UD12 Carlos Hernandez
98- W UD12 Carlos Gerena
98- L RTD8 Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Pretty sure he moved up for the DLH fight aswell. Floyd's the only man to beat him at 130 i think, he was definitely a great fighter at the weight class.

He's a definite top 10 at 130 for me.

Aside from Nelson...?

* The Raul Perez rematch; where he dismantled a very talented boxer.
* Winning the title on the road against a tough veteran in Londas
* Schooling a determined Famaso Hernandez in the autumn of his career.

He certainly was.

For those who didn't know, Floyd idolized him growing up.

Yeah, nothing to do with the fact Oscar couldn't make 130 anymore.

Well, there have been a lot of really good 130lb fighters in history; Mayweather, Nelson, JCC, Arguello, Elorde, Brian Mitchell, Flash Elorde, Kid Chocolate all warrant Top 10 slots in an all time ranking and probably deserve to be rated above Hernandez. But I think is in the discussion for inclusion in the bottom part of the top 10, along with Sammy Serrano and Alfredo Escalera among others.

It's a stacked division; and the fact that Hernandez deserves to be in the discussion is a testament to his ability.

He definitely has a case for being a top 5 super featherweight.

it actually had nothing to do with weight issues but more on the fact that he wasnt ready for chicanito at that time. So he pulled outta a signed contract.
