Reem's weakness will be exposed when a good wrestler or bjj guy uses level changing a lot, and sneaks in a good punch while doing so to set up a takedown..
vs. Werdum he had trouble because of all the level changes and feints, but Werdum didn't land anything super hard to set up the takedown, and he's almost more like a guy that would try and drag you to guard than try to overpower you and go for a single or double. Overeem was too strong to be taken down that way, he just stood back up.. But it showed his soft underbelly can be exposed. You can sneak a punch in there by changing levels, buzz him, THEN go for the takedown, and if you can't pound him out, you drown his ass. Otherwise, if you stand in front of him, or try to go for a clinch, he's gonna maul the shit out of you.. Lesnar couldn't hold onto him, Reem inflicted so much damage, so quickly and inside that when he was in range to try and go for a bodylock, he just wilted. He's a huge explosive guy that got everything taken out of him in just a few moments. I don't like the matchup for Cain because Overeems standup style gives him the advantage in the clinch, and Cain likes to get close to guys and maul them. I believe Cain can beat him soundly, but everything depends on him landing something hard, AND getting Reem on his back, AND keeping him there long enough to inflict damage or draining him enough.. Cain is a smart dude, but I'll bet it takes him a fight to figure out Reem.. And guess what? Reem will maul the shit out of Cain. Cain will come back and win the next one. Reem's standup style is really pretty hard to crack, and it's a punishing, unforgiving style.. You make a mistake and he will land heavy and short on you. Guys that powerful only need to land one. I think Reems striking is devatating, he is strong with decent jits but he has no more than a round in which to win and then I'm pretty sure he gasses like JDS but without the heart to last 5 rounds.
By no means an easy fight or easy prediticion. The heavyweights are good but the top top top heavies seem to still be very rigid in a style, which makes every big fight a simple execution of their gameplan which can result in a JDS vs Cain I type scenario or a JDS vs Cain II type scenario. |

If Overeem doesn't land a flying knee to take Cain out - he will get crushed into the canvas inside three rounds. It's funny that Reem was taking shots at JDS during his fight with Velazquez but he won't make it five rounds with Cain any time soon. He'd wilt under that pressure - unlike JDS who managed to stay in the fight all five rounds.

Does anyone think Overeem has a better one punch KO than JDS?
After the 2nd fight between Cain and JDS, I can't help but believe that all the stories about Cain's knee being fucked going into their first fight was true. So I only take the 2nd fight as being meaningful, and if JDS couldn't put Cain away early, then I don't see how the gutless, muscle bound Overeem will. I only hope the bookies buy into the Overeem bullshit hype, I will put a few hundreds dollars at least on Cain if his odds are better than $1.50. |

If you go for a shot and get shrugged off like Cain did vs. JDS, Reem has the technique to take advantage and use his own gnp, which is outstanding. It's a nasty ass matchup for Cain, a lot of Cains strengths play right into Reems.. It's a bad match. |

As far as Overeem, he's a good fighter but to say no one has a chance against him is hog wash... Cain would be a favorite against him, JDS would be a pick em fight and Big Foot is no slouch... |
