In their primes (thus in their prime weights but the 'effect' of the extra/less weight is not considered - so we're saying that they are both the same in terms of NATURAL WEIGHT), their abilities are adjusted towards 12 rounds etc. in a fantasy match up..We are not talking P4P, we are talking Head-to-Head.
Who do you believe will have the upper hand over the course of 10 fights? Why do you think this? Last edited by anj; 01-03-2013 at 08:48 AM. |

Sugar Ray Leonard. Had everything when it was needed. He could box, fight, everything. In the ring with much better opposition, and proved it.
Over 10 bouts, 8 for Sugar Ray. |

I'm sorry but p4p fantasy fight dont make sense.
The two have actually been mw champions so if we take them on their championship nights I'm going with Jones who is just too big for leonard to realistically compete with. That aside I think Jones looks better on film (no homo) |

Leonard clearly.
For one, Roys prime coinsided with him being an anabolic steroid user, and following that Leonard has huge advantages in key areas - adaptability, the ability to produce his best in adversity, and in the chin department. Leonard is the definition of ATG, where as Roys career is made up of smoke and mirrors swallowed by a gullable, delusional public. |

What Roy Jones did to James Toney was not an illusion. Having said that, I agree that Sugar Ray Leonard would beat Roy Jones. A good fight while it lasts.

If both were naturally the same size? Would be a hell of a fight. I think Sugar would take serious punishment, before catching up to Roy late on and stopping him like he did against Tommy Hearns. Would be an ageing fight for both guys, especially if it was over 15 rounds

In a P4P sense, you're looking at two guys with similar attributes. although I'd give Jones the edge in power. In bouts between fighters of a similar level, intangibles are likely to decide the outcome, and in that area Leonard was as good as anyone who ever fought.
At 160, Jones is simply too everything for Leonard. |

It is a hard thing to wrap your head around around because it is a large weight disparity and they are from two different generations. P4P and ATG I rate SRL higher so I would have to go with him. the realistic way to look at it is to think at Middlewieight where RJJ is Prime and SRL is past it. in that scenario I give the edge to RJJ.

The only way to look at this is to imagine a fantasy catchweight where you can take 147 Ray and 160 Roy.
Ray was the finest example of the modern era of the guy who always found a way and much as I admire Roy,he never fought anyone close to having the mental edge and deep well that Ray had. This for me doesn't come down to ability. It comes down to who would have the will to dig deepest and there's only one winner in that department. And the win over Toney wouldn't get into Ray's top 4,if not 5 victories. Didn't they train together on one occasion? |
