Red face What happens to fighters that have been used as a tuneup for former world champs?

What happens to fighters that have been used as a tuneup for former world champs? Are they just happy with the payday or do they want to get back to world title contention asap?

Aleksy Kuziemski (for Jean Pascal)
Carlos Molina (for Amir Khan)
Vivian Harris (for Victor Ortiz)
Denis Grachev (for Lucian Bute)
Steve Forbes (for Jessie Vargas)
Joel Cassa (for Timid Timmy)

and then theres the likes of Richard Abril and Pablo Cano who beat Brandon Rios and Paulie M. respectively but didn't get the verdict cos of corrupt judges. Where do they all go?

Take Carlos Molina v Amir Khan. Everyone boo'd Khan when he came out. I wonder how the Mexican fans felt afterwards... did they hold a grudge that he beat our dude or did they think it was a good nights boxing?

Carlos got an opportunity to taste the big stage...

He would have and never again will fight at that level... if were honest.. and got a nice sum of money...

He will continue his career as normal at 135...

Losing to Khan isn't a dent for him really... mentally probaly..

and hell if he actually makes it big then i'd say losing to Khan did a shit tonne good for his career

They took the fight and they accept the loss. Real fans of a fighter will watch and support them win or lose.

Well they can take the money they made in that fight and buy a nice little house and go back to what they did before. I think those guys pretty much know that they will never make it big in the sport and i think they do it mostly for the love of the sport and to make a decent living.

They make money as journeymen fighters, have stories to tell about when they fought big names and have some money and a reputation to build a business when they retire. They also did a million times better than most guys who ever laced up and got in the ring!

It's not just a payday, it's the opportunity to pull off the major upset. Buster Douglas was a warm up for Tyson who was preparing for a super fight with Holyfield, and the rest is history

More recently, Josesito Lopez was a tune up for Victor Ortiz, and he pulled off the major upset, which then earnt him a huge payday against Canelo.

Dave Tiberi pulled off the upset against James Toney and was robbed.

It rarely happens, but the odd time it does a fighter can make history. It's life changing for these guys
