Could be loss of interest in training after the hell they go through to get to that medal. Also depends on what they're being offered to go pro, if the money is great a lot will find the motivation to train harder.

amateurs pay better than pros in the first few years with no guarantee of big money in the pros well thats how it is here in Ireland anyway .

they see better future in studying, safer jobs and stay in boxing as coaches or something..

if you get hurt in f.e. car crash you will hardly continue with boxing, what you gonna do then?

another thing is if you are born with nothing, or you parents have no money, or you just know boxing and nothing else..

In the old days if you wanted to be a famous pro, then you strove to win the olympics to get world wide exposure. Most people were amature as a means to an end. Now a days with youtube, espn, hbo and eastside boxing, maybe you don't need that medal to build up a following. Hell, even Charlie Z has a fan base.

That's just entirely my theory tho. Could be many other factors

Yes, Kimbo Slice.

And Charlie Z might have never gotten the chance to sucker punch Big Floyd if not for youtube. What a time to be alive!
